and so I love to eat out and try new meals at different places around Accra. Shoutouts to all the foodies reading:heart:
I am also a student on a limited budget so try as I might, some eateries and restaurants are just way out of my budget range. Many a time, I have fallen in love with a restaurant seen on Google Maps and gone all the way there with the intention of trying out some new meal, only for me to get to the location and discover that I can only buy a drink or smoothie if I don’t want to break the bank😅
In Ghana here however, very few restaurants and eateries have websites (or any sort of online presence) and even a lesser percentage have their menus easily accessible online. This inability to access accurate information on the pricing of menu items makes exploring of new destinations a hassle especially as the cost involved is mostly tops the list of things to be considered in choosing a location to dine out.
This problem inspired me to start giving detailed reviews on Google Maps especially with regards to affordability. However I soon realised that, just describing places in words such as “affordable” or “pricey” won’t cut it. These words are still very much subjective and what is considered pricey/affordable means different things to different people. This realisation catapulted me into what I describe to be “my journey of menus”. I begun taking pictures of all pages of the menus provided at every place I sit to eat to later upload them unto Google Maps. These days I sometimes go to places just to make enquiries and take pictures of their menu to upload. This way, whoever needs to gauge the affordability of a place can do so directly with the help of the menu pictures in the Photos. And thanks to Google Maps, these pictures are eternally there and can be accessed by just viewing - no stress at all.
The pictures of the restaurant menus I upload enable people to plan very well financially before setting out to visit locations for some foodie-fun!
