I am incredibly lucky to live in a food capital. However, there is always a limit to how much food you can eat, how much time you have, and how much money. I’m also a huge optimizer - I have a career in project management, so I’m always thinking about how to make the best of any situation, and how to improve it. Lastly, I am what they call, a foodie.
I grew up straddling two different food worlds - my father had rich friends so I would get their leftover filet mignon and Godiva chocolates, but I also was a suburban north Jersey girl, who had just had pocket change to buy Fun Dip. I’ve gained a rich appreciation for all different types of food and what makes each type special. I’d never compare a micro-green salad with edible flowers to a 12 course tasting menu with Spanish-Japanese influence to a beef patty and a Mexican Pepsi at a bodega. Each food, in its own spotlight, can truly be phenomenal. And in NYC, there are tens, if not hundreds of thousands, of choices.
So I contribute because I value the feedback of discerning food-goers. Is this worth my hunger, my time, and my money? I would rather spend my drink budget on 1 perfect cocktail, than 4 incredibly sub-par beers. And other local guides help me to do that, as I try to help others. I am honest, transparent, and detail-oriented, writing the review I’d want to see if I was trying to decide which tacos to try. I have a high bar for food and dining, and frankly I can, because of where I live, and I think everyone else eating in this area should as well, even if it’s just for that perfect McDonalds.
