The Kansai region (関西地方, Kansai-chihō) includes the prefectures of Mie, Nara, Wakayama, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyōgo and Shiga. The region is located in the west of the Kanto Region which includes the Great Tokyo area.

I have visited Japan many times and my favorite cities are Kyoto & Osaka due to the cultural and historical ambiance.

Here are my recommendations if you ever visit the Kansai region.

Miyama Kayanuki-no-Sato is an amazingly beautiful village with authentic traditional Japanese farmhouses.

There are lots of historical temples with different kinds of signature architecture.

The most famous bamboo forest in Kansai region and visitors must feel the familiarity with the scene.

Shinsaibashi-Suji is definitely the heaven for shopping with various brands and reasonable price.

Tourists love to imitate the post of the famous signature runner of Glico on a signboard by the entrance.

Port of Kobe is one of the biggest international trading port in Japan.

The night view is romantic and perfect for couples.

Do you see the billboard with a man in white running shirt, with his both hands and a leg up? That’s the glico runner pose.

If I’m not mistaken, it imitates the athlete’s victorious run at the finish line. It’s very popular
