Today I tried to upload new photos to google maps and it says that I haven’t got any app to do it. I cannot see any photo from the google maps app neither.
If I try to upload the photo sharing it directly from Google Photos it works fine.
I have the beta version of google maps and I upgraded recently to android 11 and I have a Google Pixel 3 XL.
I attach some screenshots where you can see the error.
I can’t help you but it would be helpful if you would move this post to the How-to section where it fits better. Just edit your post again, select the new Topic at the top, and save it again.
How-to is the section where questions are asked and answered.
I read an article on this at the weekend, it’s a known bug with Maps and Android 11 sadly.
A workaround seems to be to open your gallery app of choice and use the “share to” option on the image(s) and select “Maps”. It will try to pickup the location based on the GPS data in the image and give you a list to choose from. If the place isn’t there you can search for it.
It’s being discussed pretty much everywhere there’s any kind of community (Reddit etc) but the dedicated Android 11 / Pixel support pages is where I’d expect the most up to date info.
@LilyanaZ - users elsewhere report the issue with the latest version of Maps (inc. beta) and earlier ones. It seems to be more of an Android 11 problem than a Maps one.
I found that workaround too. It is very helpful to upload photos in existing places, but it is not helpful when trying to upload a new place, as you cannot share the photo from Google photos in that case.
Danke!
