[Hybrid] Singapore, July 29, Local Guides Pre Connect Live Huddle - Duxton Park to Chinatown

Hi everyone!

Ahead of Connect Live 2026, I and my Co-host @nareshdarji, hosting a relaxed Local Guides meetup focused on accessible exploration, responsible contributions, and creating helpful photo & video content for Google Maps.

The idea is simple — we meet, learn from each other, explore thoughtfully, and make meaningful contributions together.

We’ll begin at Duxton Plain Park for introductions and knowledge sharing. Then we’ll take a relaxed, accessibility-aware walk toward Chinatown Street Market, capturing storefronts, heritage architecture, and small businesses through both photos and short walking videos.

:bullseye: Focus of This Meetup

This meetup will be interactive and practical:

  • Quick introductions (Local Guides level + favorite contribution type — and feel free to share anything else!)

  • Writing more helpful and inclusive reviews

  • Photography tips for Google Maps

  • :movie_camera: Shooting steady walk-through videos while moving

  • :wheelchair_symbol: Identifying and reviewing accessibility features, if there are any.

  • Responsible and policy-aligned contributions

:spiral_calendar: Meetup Agenda (5:00 PM – 7:00 PM)

:five_o_clock: 5:00 PM – Welcome & Introductions

  • Quick icebreaker: Your LG level + favorite contribution type

  • What does “helpful contribution” mean to you?

:five_o_clock: 5:15 PM – Knowledge Sharing (25 minutes)

:one: Writing Helpful & Inclusive Reviews

  • Mentioning accessibility features (ramps, lifts, wide entrances, seating space)

  • Clear, factual, and neutral language

  • Avoiding promotional or sensitive content

:two: Better Photography for Maps

  • Capturing storefronts clearly

  • Avoiding faces and license plates

  • Lighting, framing, and angle tips

:three: Videography While Moving

  • Shooting smooth 10–20 second walk-through clips

  • Holding phone steady while walking

  • Slow panning vs. fast motion

  • When video adds value (entrance access, ambience, pathways)

:five_thirty: 5:40 PM – Live Map Editing Practice (15–20 minutes)

  • Demo: Editing listings properly

  • Identifying duplicates and incorrect information

  • Adding accessibility attributes

  • Trying 1–2 edits together

:six_o_clock: 6:00 PM – Accessible Photo & Video Walk

We’ll walk at a relaxed pace toward Chinatown, focusing on:

  • Storefront photography

  • Short walking videos (entrances, street ambience)

  • Checking step-free access and pathways

  • Verifying opening hours and categories

  • Supporting small and heritage businesses

:six_thirty: 6:40 PM – Contribution Challenge (Optional & Fun)

During the walk, try to:

  • Upload 3 high-quality photos

  • Add 1 short helpful video

  • Edit 1 place accurately

:seven_o_clock: 6:55 PM – Wrap-Up & Group Photo

  • Share what you edited or learned

  • Reflect on accessibility observations

  • Group photo

  • Exchange contacts / form a chat group

7:00 PM – Official End of Meetup

:wheelchair_symbol: Accessibility Note

The route is mostly flat and walkable. If anyone has mobility considerations, please let me know in advance so we can adjust the pace and route accordingly. The goal is inclusive participation for everyone.

What to Bring

  • Phone (fully charged) or camera

  • Water bottle

  • Comfortable walking shoes

  • Portable power bank (optional)

Positive and respectful energy

Let’s explore thoughtfully, create responsibly, and make Maps more helpful for everyone.

See you soon!

I wish I could have participated in this program with all of you in person, so my memories of living in Singapore for 13 years would have been refreshed again.
