[Hybrid] India, January 26, Prayagraj, kumbh, Photo Walk - LG10 Meet-up

Hello, Dear Local Guides! :tada:

As we celebrate the grand occasion of the Maha Kumbh, we are excited to announce a special event in its honor. On behalf of India, I am delighted to organize the “Prayagraj Photo Walk - Kumbh Mela Edition” in Uttar Pradesh, India.

About Maha Kumbh Mela

The Maha Kumbh Mela is one of the largest spiritual gatherings in the world, celebrated every 12 years in rotation across four holy cities of India: Prayagraj (Allahabad), Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik. Among these, the Kumbh Mela held in Prayagraj at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers is considered the most auspicious and significant.

The festival is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology and spirituality, with its origins tracing back to the legend of the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean of milk). According to the story, drops of nectar fell at these four sacred locations during a celestial battle between gods and demons. These drops are believed to sanctify the sites, making them ideal for attaining spiritual merit.

Why Prayagraj is Special:

Prayagraj, home to the Triveni Sangam, is considered the holiest location for the Maha Kumbh. The city comes alive with millions of pilgrims, saints, ascetics, and visitors from around the world. Taking a dip in the Sangam during the auspicious days of the Maha Kumbh is believed to cleanse sins and lead to moksha (liberation).

About Prayagraj:

Prayagraj, formerly known as Allahabad, is one of the most sacred cities in India, renowned for the Kumbh Mela, the world’s largest spiritual gathering. Rich in cultural and historical significance, Prayagraj is where the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers converge at the Triveni Sangam. This city has been a vital part of India’s history, spirituality, and heritage for centuries.

Planned Activities:

During this meet-up, we’ll explore some of the most iconic landmarks and hidden treasures of Prayagraj. Our itinerary includes:

Triveni Sangam: The confluence of three holy rivers.

Akshaya Vat: The sacred banyan tree at the Kumbh Mela grounds.

Allahabad Fort: A masterpiece of Mughal architecture.

Anand Bhavan: The historic home of the Nehru family.

Kumbh Mela Grounds: Capture the vibrant scenes of the ongoing festivities.

Meet-up Activities:

Take and share stunning photos of Kumbh Mela and historic locations on Google Maps.

Discover and highlight hidden gems of Prayagraj.

Contribute by improving Google Maps data with edits and reviews.

What to Bring:

A smartphone or camera with sufficient storage and internet (mobile data).
Comfortable walking shoes for long strolls.
Water and snacks to stay hydrated and energized.
