How Ukrainian girl from a very small town learned English, discovered USA&became Aussie drone pilot

I like to make a difference, I like to inspire and to be inspired, I like to discover new places and meet new people. I am not discouraged when I face challenges but I learn from them. I never give up if I hear “no” as an answer.

I am very happy, when I have my drone or camera in my hands. I enjoy droning because I love to explore and discover new places. What I love the most is sharing my photos and videos with others.

Since I was little girl back in Ukraine I always wanted to travel and see the world. I was born in early 80s in a small town in central Ukraine. There was no Internet back in a day but our school had big encyclopedias and lots of world maps which I loved studying. My favorite subject at school was geography and I had great interest studying about English speaking countries.

I’ve decided to learn English as I realized without speaking English I wouldn’t be able to travel overseas. So I did my best learning English at the school, took private lessons, continued to study at the University, completed course of English language interpreter as well. I was so excited when I discovered I could go on exchange to USA and improve my English after I graduated from the University. It is hard to find the worlds to describe all the emotions I felt when I was on the plane to New York. All the excitement of the new things and places I was going to discover. As we travelled with the group of girls we had to stay in New York for the briefing and training for one week. I thought my English was great at that time but all the different accents and new words I heard made me realize there was much more to learn. I’ve spent an awesome year living in the American family in Eagle, Colorado, studying English at Colorado Mountain College, and meeting lots of new friends, traveling around Colorado and even had vacation at Turks and Caicos. This experience I will never forget. It really opened my eyes and made me realize how big our planet was and how many interesting places and people were there to meet and discover.

Shortly after I got back to Ukraine there was another opportunity for me to come back to USA on business management training and I had spent 1.5 years in Los Angeles. It was completely different experience for me. There were two of us who were selected as trainees. So I had a friend who made things so much easier and when you had a company things were always better. When we faced difficulties we supported each other. So we had our training in the office in downtown LA and for the practical part we worked in the Bicycle Casino. It was very interesting experience and nothing like other office jobs I had before. There is something about USA that makes you feel so free. You can get a driving licence, buy a car, and off you go to exploring and discovering new interesting places. I am very grateful for such wonderful experience. My English definitely improved a lot as I learned lots of slang words locals used and I became as fluent as a native speaker. It is amazing how much quicker you pick up everything when you live in English speaking environment. We discovered all of the famous places in Los Angeles: Santa Monica Pier, Rodeo Drive, Hollywood Boulevard, Universal Studious, Griffith Observatory, Six Flags and many others. We even hiked to Hollywood sign. It was lots of fun. We have explored lots of amazing beaches: Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Huntington Beach were the closest ones we used to go to. We often went to Long Beach, exploring Queen Mary was absolutely amazing. I’ve learned how to roller-skate on the walking paths along the beaches. We drove to Big Bear in summer and in winter we learned how snowboard there. We had awesome trips to Las Vegas, Palm Springs, San Francisco and many other interesting places.

And here I am now living in Australia for almost 4 years. It is my new home. I love Perth. It is my home city now. I love truly amazing beaches here. I simple cannot get enough of the ocean. I am there every day. I live so close to the beach and enjoy my morning walks, flying my drone, snorkeling or simply relaxing there. My favorite beaches are Trigg Beach, North Beach, Marmion Beach, Watermans Bay Beach, Sorrento Beach, Cottesloe Beach, Scarborough Beach, Whitfords Beach, Mullaloo Beach, Iluka Beach, Burns Beach and many others. I love parks around Perth and wildlife. I love all of the local bushlands. I love exploring Kings Park again and again as I always discover something new when I go there. I love lizards and kangaroos that visit us on regular basis from across the road. I love hearing birds singing every morning. I love watching amazing spectacular sunsets every night. I love travelling and discovering unique small places in Western Australia. I really enjoyed our road trips to Margaret River, Yallingup, Swan Valley, Cowaramup, Bindoon, Coral Bay, Carnarvon, Lancelin, Leinster, Kalgoorlie and many others. I love sharing all of the beautiful places I have discovered, food I’ve enjoyed, and animals I’ve seen with others. I love and respect nature. I am so grateful for everything I have in life. It doesn’t matter where you are from what matters the most is your courage, desire to learn and explore, being opened for opportunities, hard work and positive attitude. Life is truly amazing ?
