How to stay updated on Google Maps news

If you want to keep up with the latest news related to Google Maps, subscribe to The Keyword, which is Google’s official blog. Under Product Updates, you can select Maps. I just checked and found the following 3 recent news stories, that you may want to know about:

This blog post describes how new regulations in the EU will require cars registered after July 2024 to have an intelligent speed assistance (ISA) feature that displays the legal speed limit at all times and warns drivers if they go over it. Google is working with car manufacturers to deliver reliable data on speed limits. They are pulled from Google Streetview and other sources using AI to translate the different speed limit signs and the attached GPS data.

You can read the AI and speed limits post here.

Another very recent post is related to Accessibility:

New features related to accessible walking routes on Google Maps are presented, and more places will now have wheelchair-accessible information. But also Lens, Search, Pixel phones, and Google Assistance routines got smarter. Please read this, if accessibility is close to your heart. You find it here.

Finally, this somewhat Maps-related blog post appeared in October:

This blog post gives an impressive overview of some of the different ways Google contributes to a greener future, including:

  • Cutting down on traffic and travel emissions
  • Helping people get from A to B more sustainably
  • Introducing Deeper Electric Vehicle Insights in Search
  • Minimizing the impact of long-distance travel
  • Sharing information about home cooling and heating options
Broadening access to tools that accelerate the energy transition
  • Helping build more sustainable urban areas with solar

You can read the sustainability post here.

I hope you found some of this interesting.

Cheers

An excellent suggestion @MortenCopenhagen . And also good to know: if you have a remarkable story as local guide, you might even be invited to write a guest post on The Keyword, as happened to me a couple of years ago: https://www.blog.google/products/maps/jan-van-haver-local-guides

Hello, for some time now many of my reviews have been rejected. It probably depends on the photos and videos that I post with the reviews. However, the photos and videos are always taken and made by myself (it’s a hobby of mine). I don’t understand why some photos and videos are not accepted, they are of excellent quality and not amateurish… . This problem currently prevents me from posting further reviews (I stopped doing so for a while now) because it is frustrating when well-intentioned reviews are repeatedly rejected. How can I solve this problem? Kind regards, Frank

@FrankVvk many members of Connect were asking the same question recently. I just commented on one of those posts. Have a look, hope it helps.
