As a food scientist and a food blogger, nice food is not enough to make a restaurant stand out.
When we give ratings to the restaurant, the owner and other reviewers would love to understand why, which means what factors endorse us to give the rating.
This is how I normally structure my review in a logical/comprehensive way:
[Location] Is this location easy accessible by public transportation? or we need to drive or take some walk?
[Environment] The external and interior decoration definitely affect the dinning atmosphere, this factor is especially important if we would like to choose a nice place to celebrate specially dates like anniversary/birthday.
[Service] apart from the nice atmosphere, the friendly service and supportive suggestions on wine pairing/menu selection are also essential for a restaurant. I believe many of us had the experience that the nice service brings a lot of positive impression on a restaurant, and the bad service can totally ruin our mood.
[Food] Most important thing for a restaurant for sure is the food. Please note that we are from different culture/eating habit and everyone has different preference on food, so the the review on taste can be quite personal. e.g., I can bear really spicy food, so my review can be “slightly spicy”, but the same food may kill another person if he/she is not used to the spiciness.
[Summary] short summary about whether we recommend this restaurant or not. Useful for people who only have time to understand the conclusion.
Here is an example about my detailed review on restaurant Karel V.
