General store, fairly visited has been closed for two months for remodeling! Business has not been claimed AFAIK.
On the door is notice , Re-opening at September 1st, please visit our shop located at …(place over 5 km away…)
But Google doesn’t allow or have not any option to mark business temporarily closed.
Case 2. X-mass fair, business apparently claimed but Google refuses to mark it closed from February untill November… And refuses to mark it permanently closed…
Any suggestions, any ideas… Please implement temporary closures!
Hi dear @VlLo
You can click on " Suggest an edit " menu on each place, and then click on " Change name or other details " and then click on " Add opening date " and then click on " Add the specific day " and write the correct date.
I agree with you. There is no option on Google Maps to mark a place temporarily closed. According to the data that you provide that business informs that it will move from place in the future. There is also no direct option to mark on Maps. While this configuration does not change, what I am doing as Local Guides, is to upload photos showing the place and the announcement on its facade, write the situation in rewiew to give information to the community. Also send comments to Maps with the screenshots of the place and eliminate the opening hours of the business that was accepted by Maps. Leaving the phone number is a good option since it is clear that nobody answers the phone, in my case for 8 months. @Rezgar In Maps we have the option of: “Change name and others” or “” Remove this place "for three reasons: mark as closed, non-existent or duplicate.
According to these options, for Maps a business has two states, open or closed.
The case of this business raised here for Maps is open
If it is open, how can you send a comment and reopening information if it is open
It would be very useful to know if your plan to edit data and write reopening date of the premises, was accepted by Maps, it would help us to many Local Guides.
@iDepp I can’t find here how to resolve the issue of this publication about temporary closures. I request more specific guidance on this topic in your link, it would be helpful. Maybe I got lost in something.
Greetings.
Greetings.
The features to mark a place as temporary or permanently closed is available to business owners through the Google My Business platform and the businesses can update their business listings online by setting special hour or holidays when the business will not be opened or to mark the location as permanently closed.
Hi @KatyaL ,
Is there any better way for Local Guides to help members of the community out when a business owner doesn’t update their business during a long (but temporary) closure?
Please reference the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial for instance. (https://goo.gl/maps/FNfbXPdciuEDrwZG8)
The memorial is currently undergoing renovations until May 2020, but is listed as open for 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Because this is a landmark and/or is not being managed (on google maps) properly, there are upset visitors from the community who are unaware of its closure until they arrive. Other guides have uploaded photos of the plaque that says it’s closed, but because it’s a popular location, other photos are pushed to the top instead of the photo of the current closure.
A local guide like myself could help avoid this, if we were given an option that didn’t require us to be the owners of a business on google maps.
I agree, I have a popular restaurant I frequent and there is sign on door temporary closed fir renovations- it would be helpful for others to know this before they drive there because Google Maps shows open! I can not find a way to make just temp close, only gives option to permanently close suggestions - I took a photo and wonder if I should post the sign on door?
Please feel free to suggest the option for marking places as temporarily closed on Idea Exchange. You can also mention that your idea is related to places which are different from businesses.
