Palembang is not only famous for songket fabric but there is also an jumputan fabric. Palembang typical jumputan fabric is very famous for its beautiful colors and because of that they called the rainbow fabric.
I had visited Tuan Kentang village, to see firsthand the process of making jumputan cloth. In this village, the crafters who produce Palembang typical fabric especially jumputan.
Jumputan cloth is one of Palembang’s traditional fabrics made by weaving and tying fabric and then dipping colors. To produce jumputan fabric must go through a process to make that takes about 1 week until 1 month .

This fabric, also known as a rainbow fabric is produced by craftsmen who live on Jalan Aiptu Wahab 15 ulu, Kelurahan Tuan Kentang, Kecamatan Seberang Ulu 1, Palembang City.
The method of making fabric which is quite complicated is comparable to the results of the jumputan fabric.
The first stage is cutting fabric from 2 meters to 5 meters. Next the cut fabric is painted according to the desired motif using a pencil.
Then the cloth that has been painted is tied one by one. After that, the coloring process begins.
The coloring process can be done by dyeing techniques, brushed with naptol, sprayed with dyrex or combined with all three.
After boiling for coloring the fabric is washed with clean water to remove the colors. After being drained, the fabric ties are removed, and the dyed fabric is dried in the sun.
Jumputan fabric is one of the best-selling types of fabric being traded because in the process of its process, this fabric contains its own unique value and complexity. Beautiful motifs and colors are also one of the attractions for people to buy.
