How to link my socials under my post

Hi everyone!

My name is Dorcas and I love contributing on Google maps, it makes me happy  .

I came across Local Guides Connect for the first time today and I’m excited to see others who share my excitement and fulfillment about contributing and helping others.

I have gone through the community posts and I am loving it already, although I am yet to introduce myself.

I see some Local Guides have linked their socials at the end of their post. I am big on socials and love to put myself out there. How do I link my socials at the end of my posts?

Hi @Dorcas_Jacob ,

Thanks for reaching out to us!

First of all, I’d welcome you and propose this article that will help you get familiar with the forum. You can also introduce yourself in our monthly section and meet others from the community.

As for your question, when you enter your Local Guides profile, you will see an option to edit it as per the screenshot below. On your settings, under tab ‘‘personal’’ there are a few sections. You must choose ‘‘personal information’’, where you will see a list of empty fields, where you can put some details that will show up on your profile publicly. Usually, Local Guides add their social media links in their signature. In this case it will show up under any comment or post that you publish in our community. You can check out this article for more details. Hope this was helpful!

P.S.: With the above said I am marking my comment as a solution. This means that if someone else has a similar doubt, the information can be found easier.

Hey @Dorcas_Jacob ,

You are welcome! If you have additional questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.

P.S.: I also wanted to let you know that you can tag Connect members. In this case they receive a notification and are able to view your comments right away. You can do it by putting the symbol “@” in front of the nickname.

Actually your signature is not a link. To change it for the link to works, you can create the HTML code in desktop using the following steps:

  • reply to this post
  • Click on the insert the link icon

  • Add the link and the text you want to display (e.g. “My Linkedin”

  • Repeat the operation for every link e.g. “My Instagram”
  • Click on the HTML icon

  • Copy the HTML CODE and past it in the signature, as you did already

here’s the result

My Linkedin - My Instagram

If you are on mobile, just copy the text here below

My Linkedin - My Instagram

You can replace My Linkedin and My Instagram with the text you want to have displayed

Hi @Dorcas_Jacob ,

In the article I sent you there is a video that is very detailed. You can see how to link in your comments/posts and at the end of the video (around min 6) you can see how to link your accounts in your signature.

If you want to link a word here on Connect, you must mark the word you want to add link to and use this tool as per my screenshot below:

P.S.: I removed your comment with the links, for privacy reasons.

Thank you so much! @SholaIB It is awesome hearing from you. Do you know if there are any meetups in Lagos happening soon?

@Dorcas_Jacob

There are no meetups at the moments I think but you can check from time to time if there is a virtual meetup on connect. You can always attend virtual ones online if there is a link. The physical meetups are abit rare for now because of Covid19. With time other Nigerian local guides will reply and you’ll be linked up.

Cheers :beers:

@SholaIB thank you for tagging me.

Hi @Dorcas_Jacob glad to have you here on Connect and I am excited you are excited about contributing on Google Maps.

I see that you have been assisted by fellow moderators. I am looking forward to more of your posts on Connect.

For meet-ups, you may wish to also host and you’d be sure Lagos Local Guides would be ready to attend, of course following Covid-19 rules.

We look forward you having you on the Telegram platform where you’d meet other Guides.

Happy guiding and see you soon.

Cheers

Emeka
