However I can not find this option in Google Maps anymore. Is there still anyway to find places without photos?
Is it possible to get places with the API and check for photos count?

That feature of “uncover missing information” is gone. It was in check the facts. Check the facts is now based on our locations and search history.Sorry !!! It’s no more available,the system has been improved or changed.
You just have to check as you go along,that’s what makes you a local guide. Thank you for checking anyway before asking or posting.
I have contributed to places without photos even today and my photo was featured. Goodluck

@SholaIB is correct. The feature is now long gone.
When you search on Google Maps you will get a list with photos. Here you can quickly identify places in need of photos. Also, when looking at one place there will be a heading called Similar places. This is also a great source of inspiration when looking for pins in need of pics (and edits).
