How to find Local Guides in my town? How to contact them?

How do I find and contact other Local Guides in my town? I can see them on reviews of businesses, but I don’t know how to contact them.

I saw some other posts here in Local Guides Connect that have solutions, but they don’t help me – maybe things have changed over the years? Thank you in advance for a solution.

To protect our privacy Google have not made it possible to contact fellow local guides.

LGs happy to be found can add contact details in the profile text.

You may be lucky that people use their real names. Then look for them on Facebook and do a Google search.

Search for local guides groups on Facebook.

Attend or organize a meet up in your area.

And you can search for languages, city and country names here on Connect where we have a Personal Message system.

Good luck

Hi @Karin-Wilson-NC just want to add to what Morten already explained above. So you can’t directly contact Local Guides through the profile you see on Maps contributions, but you can try to reach them by replying to their posts here in Local Guides Connect.

What you want to do is go to your Local Guides Connect settings by clicking the link below while signed in to your Local Guides account:

https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/custom/page/page-id/Settings

At the bottom, you’ll see a place to add your favorite locations. Here’s what it looks like on mine. I put San Francisco because that’s where I live now, Jakarta because it’s my hometown and I go there once in a while, and Tokyo since I often go there during my layover (well before Covid anyway). You can put your town name here, other places where you want to find Local Guides (perhaps during travel). You can enter up to 3 locations.

Once that’s done, you can go to the main page of Local Guides Connect, then scroll to the bottom, You will see posts from Local Guides that tagged their posts with the location you selected from the previous setting. Here’s what it looks like on mine

From there, you can look and comment on their posts. If you create a post and tagged it with your town name, it will also show up to other Local Guides that put the same town in their favorite list.

Hope that helps!

Hello @Karin-Wilson-NC

Nice to know that you’d like to meet local guides in your area.

I suggest conducting a local guides meetup in your area and to help with that here are a few tips and easy ways to connect with local guides in the shortest possible time.

1. Favorite Locations

To easily connect with Local Guides in your local area, you may want to try the Favorite Locations feature.
Go to your settings page and add up to 3 locations after which posts created by local guides from those cities will be listed on the main page.

Tip: If you are traveling to a new place temporarily, you can remove and add the new one. Changes reflect immediately. Following that you can connect with local guides from the new place.

2. Browse Older Posts

Browse through older posts of local guides from a place and check if they are still active and would be interested in a meetup. Chances are enthusiastic local guides did not find enough people to connect some time back and respond to your comments.

3. Private Messages

Send a private message to local guides using the feature here on Connect.

4 . Upcoming Meet-ups

A meet-up is meant to explore new places and make friends with local guides in your community. Check for upcoming meetups in the Meet-ups section.

By clicking the Show All button circled (2) in the image below you can also search for meetups by location.

5. Previous Meet-ups

Leave a reply on past meetups.

Search The LG Connect community for the word recap that is used by most local guides in their post-meetup reports. You can then search through past meetups telling the local guides that you missed it and leave a request to notify you when the next meetup is hosted.

6. Conduct a meet-up

Use the Submit meet-up button circled (1) in the image above to host a meetup. This would be a great way to reach out to the local guide community in that place proactively.

7. Do not hesitate

Go ahead and post a message seeking local guides in a city like this person from Bangalore did and got a good response.

Make sure you add a location to the post as shown in the image below.

Hope you find these useful.

and don’t forget to tag me in the recap post of your meetup

Thank you. I added three local favorite towns, but there are no posts from local guides in any of them… Plus, I could find no current or past meetups in Wilson NC.

I think the meetup I am planning will be this area’s first. I’m starting from scratch.

I see reviews written for business in the area, and some reviewers have level 6 or 7, but I am not sure if they ever use Local Guides Connect.

@Karin-Wilson-NC Usually you’ll see more posts that are tagged with big/metro cities. I’m not quite familiar with North Carolina, but I happen to know Raleigh. When I put the it as one of my favorite cities, I’m able to see posts that are tagged with that location. Perhaps you can start there? I see Wilson is less than an hour drive away from Raleigh, so it shouldn’t be too much of a hassle to do meet each other
