How to find a List?

I just got an e-mail that ypu can get points for making lists on Google Maps. I have tried to make a couple just to test the functionality. But how do people find these lists? How do I find lists for cities when I travel somewhere new?

Hi @GardK

Some ways how to find others lists:

  1. They give you link to their list.

  2. Open someones Local Guide profile (find some review from the person and click on their name) and on their profile go to lists. If they have some public list you can see it and can also follow the list.

  3. Just google it. For example I want to go to Paris so I will google: “Paris google maps lists”.

  4. https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/

Hi @GardK - I’m new but I learned something this week: I listened to a recent podcast (listen from 19:54 to 21:38 here: GoLoco: Episode 7) which said we can add hashtags to our Google Maps lists. With hope, I decided to try some hashtagging in my contributions. So far, I haven’t noticed any major differences.
I also see a related announcement (about hashtags) from November 2018: https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/Announcements/New-Use-hashtags-in-your-reviews-on-Maps

Thanks for the feedback. Personally I don’t think getting a link from someone to their list is very useful. When I travel I want to be able to Google and find it - not to get in touch with people to get them to send me a link or go to their profile to see their lists.

I tried to google Stavanger Google maps lists (as I have made some lists for my hometown just to test), and my lists does not appear in the search result as far as I can tell at least.

So I still wonder how I can find useful lists that people have made and I will keep on searching.

@GardK did you make those test lists public? Otherwise it would be normal that they do not show up as search results.

But basically, I have the same question as you: how do people find those lists? One of the lists I made now says it has 4 followers and 242 views (at least, when I check on my Android device, not on desktop), but I have no clue how to interpret this. And it’s good to read that you listen to podcasts - I hope you have listened to some episodes of the LetsGuide Podcast as well.

Yes, I have made them public and it appears on my map - one example is this: https://goo.gl/maps/3ng63Fg9vvjc7Bbk7 But for this to be useful, I have to be able to find other users list and see their opinion about best restaurants, museums, beaches etc to visit.
