HOW to delete photo WITHOUT updateing review?

Dear Friends,

I have checked few other topics and didn’t find the answer, but if I missed something and made double then sorry in advance.

I would like to remove some photos but without updateing review.

I found out, that some reviews in the past have to many photos - sometimes it was normal view and view with veeeery vide view options - and 1 of them got hundreds views and 2nd like just few. So I decided to organize those photos and remove those that are not useful etc.

And here become my problem.

When I go to review and remove photo - review become update and jump to the head of my review list as a new added - same on the site of reviewed place.

So I changed the way. I go to exact place, choose photos, then my photos - remove from here. But same result - my review has been updated as a new, just posted.

I think I made same by going directly to my photos on my profile.

1st of all, removing photo is not the same as update review, especially when the review is 6-12 months old and I do not change a single word, which means that might not represent actual situation on the place.

2nd… Statistics… From time to time I receive some notifications like - continue to write reviews to keep 20 weeks writing in row etc. I know for many people this is not important at all, but for me is a kind of badge that is not show in profile and make me feel like pursing regulary on my hobby.

So…i think that such review ‘update’ may cause break that statistic (if i was Lucky and by removing photo will update review that was just one and only at some week)

Important - so far, each removal I made by open google maps at phone (never on PC) and I do not store photo on google photos if that matters (This train left a long time ago due to low memory limit :D)

So… Is there any way to remove photo without update review?

I agree that it is far from optimal that a review gets a new date just because you decided to remove some of the photos.

First of all thanks for making an effort to improve your contributions.

The only suggestion I can offer is the same as what @Annaelisa mentioned. Go to your photo contribution list and delete the photos from there. And then test to see if this also changes the date of the associated review. If this does not help, I suggest you edit the review to mention the actual review date in the review text. Not a brilliant solution, but I think that is the best you can do.

On Google Maps there is no trash folder. Deleted photos on Google Maps can not be recovered.

@MortenCopenhagen also in meiner Fotoliste wird ein Papierkorb zur Löschung angezeigt und nach einiger Zeit ist das Foto dann gelöscht. Vom wieder herstellen war ja nicht die Rede und ist auch nicht gewollt.

Have you ever tried scroll down to old photos? In last 10 minutes I’ve tried 5 times, on wifi and on mobile internet, but application does not allow to do that. I mean, each time I started scroll from the behining it has stopped at some place… Mostly between 1 and 2 months. It looks like list is over and doesnt want to shows more. Im gona try now 6th time with very gently and slow scrolling… But I need to get to photos published 5 months ago

Are you talking about your list of photos in Google Maps? If so, that platform are you on: Android, Desktop or IOS?

I know it can be very difficult to scroll way back. In my experience, it is a bit easier on a Desktop if you have enough RAM.

Well… I get to those old photos…and confirmed that removal from here also results in review’s update

My review has been updated 2 weeks ago already and now is update to actual day

Is there any chance to send opinion/suggestion to google IT to change that?

I would gladly remove some photos that was a mistake OR even after a few months show less than 100 views, but if that cause review’s update then I consider to leave that without touch

I am of the opinion that it should be possible to delete some images without having a new date assigned to the related review.

Let me tag @InaS for you, maybe she can escalate your suggestion to the relevant team. Or suggest what else needs to be done for this to happen.

The only one thing i see usefull, that scrolling photos shows number of views, which I don’t see from reviews/places photos.

The ways of sorting photos should also be updated, not only from the newest.

During scrolling I found out that some of my photos are not connected to place any more - most likely place has been deleted. If knew I would remove them long time ago. Ehh

Yesterday I have removed arround 400 photos - mostly becasue of low views like under 50 or 100 views after 6 month while other with same review got 10k.and more.

That cause on update more than 30 reviews, becase exactly 30 has been taggen and hidden again -.-. Othera haven’t been tagged or are from region without ‘new tagging system’.

Ok, added a note that those are old reviews but updated becasue removed some photos, then set appleas, now wait

BUT I have problem with 2 reviews, with strange error. Those 2 have got different tag - ‘Something went wrong while uploading your content. Try again’ - I tried yesterday and today, still same result. I do not want to remove and again - review was helpful, lot of views, some likes, i just simply removed 1 photo that looks not usefull, later during edition and ‘try again’ I removed another one but still same result.

This is not a normal tag like spam, or bad word or bad photo, just simply ‘something went wrong, try again’…

@MortenCopenhagen any advice?
