How to approve a new road addition?

How do I get a new road addition to be approved? I’m trying to add a new road called Bending Way in Ottawa, ON. It’s part of a newly built community by Minto, you can see the site plan attached below.

I’ve tried adding the road on the Google Maps app, but it got rejected, then I tried again and it’s been in the Pending state for over two weeks now.

This is important because some of the new community residents require special accessibility taxi services, and the taxi companies can’t find the location on Google Maps.

Note that all the roads are already built & the community residents are already using these roads.

Thank you.

Yes it is very frustrating when feedback is not implemented.

Have you attached as much documentation as possible?

Do you know any other local guides in your area that could support you by submitting similar/same new roads?

Have you considered asking the local authorities to also approach Google with this information?

That is the best I can come up with.

Have you drawn the blue dots to make it easy for the map team to accept your feedback?

Maybe submitting one road per feedback.

Can you add info on house numbers also?

Cheers

Hi @MortenCopenhagen ,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately the Google Maps app doesn’t allow me to upload supporting documentation when adding a missing road. I added as much info in text as I could, but I couldn’t upload the site plan.

I don’t know any other local guides in my city.

I can try checking my localmunicipality, but I doubt they’ll do anything :slightly_smiling_face:

I did draw the blue dots to show the map team where the new road should be. And I also submitted one road in my request, the main one, Bending Way.

I can try adding the house numbers on Bending Way. Do you think that would make a difference?

@YohannaG

From memory only: if you tried on a phone it might be worth trying on a computer since there might be better options to attach supplemental information.

Else I think we need to enlist a moderator like @MortenSI to get you better help than I can provide.

Cheers

Great that you were able to add the blue lines on Google maps. @YohannaG

Are the blue lines visible? Can you share a link?

About adding the numbers, you should wait for the street to be approved, sending some more feedback (Report an error on the map

It is sad that local Municipality is not doing it by themselves, as they can have a privilegiate way, as you can read here: https://maps.google.com/help/maps/mapcontent/index.html

Thanks for tagging me here @MortenCopenhagen , but unfortunately I can’t give a more definitive answer to your issue @YohannaG .

Adding new roads can sometimes be a tricky business and the team verifying these changes are doing what they can to find proof that the newly added roads exist. If your changes are not applied it usually means that the team couldn’t gather enough evidence to support the edit.

My best advice here is to keep adding the road if it gets denied, and I would start with Bending Way and wait to add the other small side streets until that one is approved. Like @ErmesT mentions, your local municipality could have an easier time getting the edit approved. I hope it works out in the end.

Thanks for all your comments & help everyone. I just found out that Bending Way was added to Google Maps woohoo!

I’ll move on to adding the side streets now.

Thanks again.

Hi @YohannaG ,
I noticed that you said something about only being able to share text in the feedback. Please note that you are able to share URL links inside this text box that takes the verification team to your evidence (pictures, video, the map you showed us above).

When sharing videos or photos it is important to make sure that these images include references that are already on Google Maps. So, when a new street is added as a side-street to an existing street on Maps, take pictures of the corner of the street with the new street name sign if you can and make sure that buildings or things that are visible on street-view are also visible on your image. That way you prove the relation to what is new and what already exists inside maps.

This is, in my understanding, also why 360 video uploads by Local Guides are such a successful method to get new roads added.
