How To Accelerate Message Composing in LG Connect

The LG Connect platform provides a powerful text editor with a rich set of tools.
When posting a new article or replying to posts, the same set of tools is available which is a significant advantage.

This article lists and describes some of the keyboard shortcuts that can be used to accelerate when composing messages in the LG Connect community forum.

Tip #1

Select some text and:
Press Ctrl+I for Italics
Press Ctrl+B for Bold
Press Ctrl+U for underlining

Tip #2

When no text is selected pressing Ctrl+B turns the Bold mode ON.

All the text typed after this appears bold.

To stop typing in bold, press Ctrl+B again.

The same applied to Ctrl+I and Ctrl+U.

On pressing Ctrl+B and then Ctrl+I the subsequent text will appear bold and Italic.

Tip #3

To select all the text in the editor to change its property like bold or underline, or to simply select and delete all the text, do not use the mouse to drag and select.

Press Ctrl+A to select all the text in the editor.

Tip #4

To insert a link to another website, press Ctr+K to open the Insert Link dialog.

In this dialog, type the name of the website for example www.instagram.com.

Click OK in the dialog box to close it and note that a hyperlinked text will appear which also opens the webpage.

Alternatively, you can attach a hyperlink to an existing word.

Select the word and press Ctrl+K to open the Insert Link dialog.

Type the website address and press OK.

The selected word will become a hyperlink to the website.

Tip #5

Select a word and Press Control+F or Ctrl+G to find that word in the editor.

I tested this in Chrome so this perhaps will not work in other browsers.

Tip #6

Press Ctrl+P to open the Printer dialog.

  1. If the cursor is inside the edit box only the message typed inside the editor will be printed.
  2. If you click once outside the edit box, the entire webpage will be printed.

Tip #7

To quickly insert the flag emoji for a country, type a colon : followed by the first 3 letters of the country
The flags of the country will appear and you can use the arrow keys to highlight the country flag then press Tab to insert it.

For example, type :indi for the flag emoji of India :india: and :indo for the flag emoji of Indonesia :indonesia:

Tip #8

For inserting a smiley emoji type :smil,
For the Namaskar  icon type :fold which will list both folder hands and the folder :open_file_folder: icons, because both start with the characters fold.

Press tab to insert the highlighted emoji.

Use any word that appears in an emoji definition to search and insert the emoji.

For example :air will display

:small_airplane: :small_airplane: :flight_departure: :flight_arrival: :wheelchair: :pitcairn_islands:

Press tab to insert the highlighted emoji.

Tip #9

To undo an action like undo a deleted word or sentence, press Ctrl+Z.
To redo an action, type Ctrl+Shift+Z.

Tip #10

If you have copied something from another webpage that contains formatted text like hyperlinks, etc. press Ctrl+Shift+V to paste it as plain text which will automatically remove all the formatting.

Do you know any other Pro Tip when using the text editor in LG Connect?

Please share them in the comments.

Till Then… Happy Guiding

@TusharSuradkar

Thanks for the tips when using connect on desktop.

However, I use connect in Android.

One suggestion,

Remove local guides connect logo from your photo.

It’s against the policies.

We can’t use that.

Thanks.

That’s right @KishorMali I left out mentioning that these are for the desktop.

I primarily use the desktop and have almost never used LG Connect on the mobile.

Thanks for the tip on the logo :+1: I have updated the image :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for the comment @C_T It means a lot to me.

I don’t know of any keyboard shortcuts for inserting macros.

If you have, I will include them with due credits in the main article.

Hi @KishorMali I am planning to write an article on macros this week.

It is a very useful and time-saver technique.

Meanwhile, read my short article on macros in this reply.

I will expand on this in the article:

Thanks for the suggestion, my friend.

Oh, I now understand the theme of your post @TusharSuradkar

However, a vast majority do not use the desktop. Is there any equivalent of those shortcuts on the phone?

Unfortunately, no @C_T I have never used this LG Connect on a mobile phone.

I consider your good self and @KishorMali and others as superhumans how you guys manage to operate the Connect site on a mobile. Can you give me tips on how to get started? Is there any app for LG Connect that I have to download?

Tushar

Hello @TusharSuradkar

Thanks for the compliment. But I am not superhuman. Most of the time I access the site on a laptop.

However, when on move, that becomes difficult.

Nevertheless, there is no true app, but A PWA (Progressive Web App) that’s nothing but the webpage without an address box.

Thus, you can reach the Connect site on the phone using any browser or the PWA. The moment you log on, the site will help you to create a shortcut for that on the home screen.

Hi @TusharSuradkar

I did not know about the shortcuts to insert flags andsmiley emojis. Much appreciated  .

May I add using the Windows key + v to paste not only the text just copied. You can also paste text that was copied earlier. This is super handy and saves me a lot of time.

It is a windows 10 thing called Open the clipboard. See more here.

Thanks @MortenCopenhagen

I had read in one of your earlier articles about the Win+V key combination and it didn’t work then and not working even now. This could be due to the lack of some Windows updates. I am trying to fix the issue. The Windows setting for Clipboard simply does not exist on my system. Strange, since this should be standard in Windows and need not require any additional configuration.

Oh my. You caught me repeating my self, @TusharSuradkar .

I think you need to activate open clipboard before it works on a new system. But on my laptop it suggested me to turn it on when trying to use it. Maybe this can help you.

Oh, No @MortenCopenhagen I did not at all mean that.

It is always a pleasure to read the wealth of information that you share that makes this place an amazing community.

I only feel a bit upset that I am unable to utilize a useful feature for reasons that are beyond my understanding.
I am unable to access Start > Settings > System > Clipboard. The clipboard setting does no exist in my system :disappointed_relieved:
