How long does it take for new roads to be added to Google Maps? What is the approval process?

Hello, a housing development I am working for recently added multiple new roads in their neighborhood which I added to Google Maps about a month ago. I haven’t seen the roads added yet and I haven’t received confirmation that the edits were approved. How long does it typically take for new roads to be added to Google Maps and what does that approval process look like?

Ciao @michaelwicked ,

I saw that you already have your first road published !!! Congratulation and welcome to the club of those who loves draw roads.

Timing, as you asked, is really variable but it becoming faster as long as you draw new roads.

I do remember that in the beginning I was waiting for really long time like days , 3-4 or more.

Today the roads are approved on a daily base.

May I suggest you to have a look at this post made by @SholaIB . It is about mapping new roads and a small group of “Heavy Roaders” who exchange information, idea and hints about drawing new roads.

Usually this exchange of information is really important give us the opportunity to write post on LGC to advise / help the whole community.

Just keep drawing.

Take care

Hi @michaelwicked

In addition to @MarcoDavoli great answer I would like to add:

If you are en employee of the builders of the new area, there is another option you might be able to utilize.

Google Maps has a program enabling local and regional partners to upload their data directly and automatically. Please learn more here: Google Maps Content Providers
Examples include municipalities and public transport providers.

Developers can also join the program if they have digital Maps available and ate willing to share them. Ask around, maybe they already know this program.

Thus solution will not earn you points, but the roads can be approved within a very short time

Cheers

Hello @michaelwicked Please note, in our experience, approvals for submitted roads can take anywhere from 1 day to 3 months. If not approved within three months, it’s usually rejected. About half of the submitted roads typically get approved. For further understanding, please visit the posts suggested by our friends @MarcoDavoli and @MortenCopenhagen . All the best.
