@DeniGu thanks for rising a thread on connect about Celebrating International Mother Language Day 2024. Local Guides in Bangladesh are always celebrating this day with many activities. Thanks everyone who shared their activities on connect about 21st February.
We organized a special joint meetup in Kolkata, West Bengal, India to celebrate this day.
We are the only nation that had to fight and die for the right to speak in its mother tongue i.e. Bangla (বাংলা). This language is so versatile that you can pronounce and write down almost every sound people produce all over the world. @DeniGu
Thanks @DeniGu for mentioning the Bengali’s from Bangladesh. Our language martyrs laid down their lives for the establishment of our mother toungue which resembles all the mother language of every country.
As I am a student of Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology, Gazipur, as every year we show our respect to our Language Martyrs at the first hour of the day offering the wreath to the Shaheed Minar(martyrs tomb)
Such a beautiful celebration and commemoration of International Mother Language Day @Soykot_azam@MohammadPalash@Papel_Mahammud and also @DeniGu for sharing this. Indonesian, or Bahasa Indonesia, our mother language is spoken by approximately 94% of us and that covers so many people. Never the less, many local dialects and traditional languages are in danger of being extinct for being forgotten or no longer spoken. If I’m not mistaken, we have around 718 traditional languages in Indonesia and we are trying our best to preserve them.
@DeniGu , thanks for sharing about the essence of the celebrations of the holy International Mother Language Day in Bangladesh. This special day is equally important for the Bengali people residing in the Indian state of West Bengal, neighboring Bangladesh, as well as any member of the extended Bengali diaspora around the world, as this is the day we proudly commemorate the brave legends from East Pakistan who sacrificed their lives in 1952 attempting to save the honor of our mother tongue Bengali language.
This year, the West Bengal Local Guides (পশ্চিমবঙ্গ লোকাল গাইডস) community from India, jointly hosted alongside Local Guides Bangla (লোকাল গাইডস বাংলা) community from Bangladesh, a special meetup at Deshapriya Park Language Martyr’s Monument (Bhasha Shohid Smarok) in the city of Kolkata, West Bengal, India, called the সোনার বাংলা মিটাপ, পর্ব-০৪ (কলকাতা) (
We had Connect Moderator @ShafiulB attending from Bangladesh alongside @KhokonSharker and M T Hassan Tushar, as well as we had Guiding Star & Accessibility Champion @PritishB, senior Local Guide and a veteran WBLG member @AmarjitD da, Accessibility Champion @KalyanPal, Roshan Singh and Niloy Das from West Bengal at this event. Recaps of this special event on both Bengali language and English language are available here.
Great post @DeniGu and a nice highlight to a worthy celebration/movement! With mass media and the internet, everything has a global reach these days and it’s great to be celebrating diversity in languages!! Someday, I hope that everyone can be a polylinguist (a person who can speak numerous languages!)
Thank you for this post @DeniGu . Mother language is something that every nation is proud of. It was a proud moment when this day was declared as International Mother Language Day. Earlier, the day used to be celebrated by all Bangladeshis around the world.
