Hi there!
This is Floria. As some of you may recall, I’m from Costa Rica, a tiny country from Central America.
Many of you come from big countries, like USA and India or maybe not that big, but with a huge impact on Maps. In Costa Rica the story is otherwise. Our population of only 5 million people is not such catching for testing the updates or stuff like that.
On the other hand, not many people in my country know about the Local Guides Program.
I’ve heard so many friends telling me that they prefer to use other location apps, like Waze, because Google Maps is not so accurate.
So I decided to make a poll on my Instagram stories about this. It was only 3 questions:
-
What do you prefer: Waze or Google Maps?
-
Have you ever uploaded at least ONE photo or review to Maps?
-
Have you heard of Local Guides?
The results were exactly what I expected.
-
59 % of the people prefer Waze.
-
41 % of the people have never uploaded a photo or review.
-
80 % of the people have no idea of what is Local Guides Program*
*Even this percentage can be higher due that some of the people who answer YES were LG from other countries. But even though, the poll gives an idea of the actual panorama.
As the majority of them don’t know what means being a Local Guide, they don’t know that WE, ALL TOGETHER, can make Maps better, more accurate, more focused on our own needs as a country
I’m telling you this because we as a community should spread the voice about this awesome program.
I am opened to any of your advice to help me spread word about Local Guides and its real impact or tell me if you find something similar in your city, town or country.
With love,
-Flo ![]()
