How I organize my Google Map Lists

Being a Local Guide means that I share my experiences with others so they can make informative decisions. My goal as a Local Guide is to help others, and I would like to help other Local Guides be more organized by showing how I organize my Google Maps Lists.

Google Maps List default is Favorite places (Heart), Want to go (Green Flag), and Starred places (Star). By only using those 3 markings/labels, it can make organization very difficult. To solve this problem, I created a lists system. Here is how it works:.

  1. Decided on a category. It can be general such as “Place to Eat” or more detailed such as “Places to Eat in City A.” It’s up to you.
  2. After you decide on a category for a list, then create 3 different lists with the category you selected. For this example, the category is " :mountain_biking_man: Denver :plate_with_cutlery: Food." Protip: Use emojis makes it easier to find your lists.
    1. Places I love ( Heart emoji). Name of list " :mountain_biking_man: Denver :plate_with_cutlery: Food  "
    2. Places I want to go ( :recycle: Recycle emoji).Name of list " :mountain_biking_man: Denver :plate_with_cutlery: Food :recycle: "
    3. Places I have been toe ( :woman_singer: Star emoji) Name of list "vDevnver :plate_with_cutlery: Food :woman_singer: "

Now use this setup for every category you create. What’s great about this is you can hide lists from your map, so you don’t have a lot of labels on your map. And by using emojis, you can find your lists easily.

Hello @campionn ,

Since your post looks like an application post for Connect Live 2020, I’d like to let you know that I’ve relabelled your post to Local Stories, as all application posts should be under the Local Stories topic label.

If you need some tips on how to create it, please check out the How to write a great application post for Connect Live 2020 and Connect Live applications are now open posts.

@campionn Great idea, and so simple! Thank you for sharing!

Hi @campionn

What are the purpose and benefit of making 3 separate lists for each topic? Could it not be taken care of in the notes for each place on a single list per topic?

Is it really useful or are your number of lists not getting too overwhelming?

Cheers
