How I discovered that I had hidden reviews & media

Of course, I don’t have so many devices to test, but I got the same result on another laptop and also trying different browsers. Besides that, being able to scroll easily 7 k photos by date and less than 3 k by views, tells me, it is not a matter of resources.

Also scrolling reviews should require less resources, since most of my photos are not attached to a review. Also, the point where it stops is quite consistent.

It is just this that makes me think it is a resource issue @WilfriedB !

@AdamGT

While scrolling, I did watch task manager and can say, the system was neither memory- nor processor-constrained.

Besides myself, I saw other comments here saying something like “… found most reviews, except for xx …”.

Wondering also, if anybody did count the total numbers of reviews reported via takeouts[1] vs. My Contributions private vs anonymous …?

Anyway, I am also looking forward for the beta test, @AdamGT!

  1. Takeouts for reviews are much easier to request and analyze compared to those for the photos and also contain a link to the place pin. ↩︎

Thank you for explaining what you think is the reason @Annaelisa

@WilfriedB I would have thought it better to ask how many xxx before the scrolling hangs!

Yes we will start beta testing soon.

Hello @AdamGT, did this actually happen? Were there any usable results?

Did @AdamGT find any spare time yet? Am I correct that the side by side scrolling is no longer an option for manually finding our hidden contributions? I think it was @WilfriedB that suggested I submit a form to have my account reviewed since my hidden photo situation started to deteriorate. It’s been a while, but I haven’t seen any positive results from submitting it yet.

@tony_b using an incognito browser session (i.e. without logging into Google) doesn’t work anymore, because it shows only 10 or 20 photos or reviews, as we discovered recently.

However, if you have access to another, different Google profile, you can log into the second window and still using the the side by side scrolling method.

Thanks @WilfriedB. That works. It seems that a lot of my recent uploads are not visible. It isn’t all of them, so I don’t know what makes the difference, why some get through, and most don’t.

How long should I wait to see results from the advice you gave me about the appeal form? Is it wise to do anything about the new photos now, or should I wait a bit longer to see if Google makes everything public again?

There was a recent reference to specific models of Samsung phones causing this issue. As I see so many new ones hidden, can I assume the review will find that all my old ones are intact, and the sudden increase of hidden media is specifically related to the newer device?

Just out of curiosity, @tony_b check the version of your camera app. If it is Galaxy Camera 16.0.00.63, you have the same problem as I do and several others too, although for me it is all photos as far as I can tell.

Months a ago, I got a POI and my photos reinstated after five weeks. But I submitted an appeal for three of those hidden photos made with Galaxy S24 FE and decided just yesterday to give up, delete them, modify the original as described here and upload again. But that works only if it was the camera app Galaxy Camera 16.0.00.63, but possibly more phones than S23, S24 and S25.

You got right to the source of the problem!!

This is crazy. So where do we go from here?

Good @tony_b!

If you can download EXifTool to your desktop, the easiest solution is described here. Otherwise, you can slightly crop each photo using any editor before uploading. Obviously the hidden photos need to be deleted first. Until a couple of days ago, I did so with all my photos since early January.

For future photos, I suggest to install a different camera app such as OpenCamera.

What Smartphone model do you have? I remember A5…??

It’s a Samsung A56. I’ve successfully downloaded the alternative camera you suggested. Hoping for better days ahead. Now I have to work on fixing the past non-visible photos. Thanks for your help.

I hope, it works for you @tony_b.

So, not only S23, S24 and S25, but probably some other of the more recent Galaxy models, which got updates not so long ago.

However, I discussed with an owner of Galaxy S24 Ultra yesterday, who never hade problems. It turned out the version of his camera app had a higher level. So, I hope, sooner or later, we will get another app with the next Android or One UI update.

I started using OpenCamera only a couple of days ago, but so far, all photos had been accepted. while another photo made with the old app at the same time, was still rejected.
