I started my journey long ago when Google Maps was popular but wasn’t available on mass scale as there were very few android devices then I was the first person in my group to own an android device and around the same time Google launched a program for people to make contributions and earn android devices and goodies, certificates etc in 2013 I reckon. I contributed enough to be in Top 1000 and earned a nice LG Tee and certificate that was very encouraging however very soon I realised how helpful maps were. Then came slew of features like no. of views and featuring of photos. It was so Good of Gmaps that they added these features. I started adding more and more photos and later on Review thing got popular then came video addition…I remember once somebody texted me on Facebook and said thanks for such a great review of an exam centre I added years ago. The guy said, because of my review he reached the exam centre in time. I was amazed how he traced me from Reviews to social media to say Thanks
Later on I changed my name to Marg Darshak which means Trailblazer… because that’s what I do. India is a sparse land and lots of it was unmapped and people had the power of technology in their hands but still there was big gap…I just jumped in at right time and started mapping around me and all the cities and places I used to visit. As far the LG Connect Program is concerned I think it offers the additional help LGs seek. It’s platform with great common knowledge and experience. It will get better and better I’m pretty sure the growing popularity of Gmaps and LGs will make Google to make a standalone app which is missed a lot by LGs. The knowledge people share at Connect is really very helpful and announcements of new features and event is worth ful. There are many interesting things happen in life related to mapping, its hard to narrate all in one post. Mapping made me click lots of pics and I became a better photographer overtime. It’s hard to get the best photo out of maps and post it here as they are stacked deep in contribution section.
