Hey. If you’re like me, you love seeing your local guide points go up, and chasing the next local guide level. Maybe you’re trying to get another badge that requires more views of your photos or videos. So here’s some ideas on getting some quick points and views.
First of all, take a look, sometimes, at what photos other guides are posting. Especially the ones that have a lot of views. Look at their photos listed by "most views, " not by “newest.”
The first thing you’ll noticed (and a lot of guides have) is that photos of food get lots of views. And not just fancy expensive dishes. I’ve seen photos of slices of pizzas get over 100,000 views. Whaaat?! I’m not a foodie but when I am eating I’m taking photos. And it’s not just food. Take a photo of the seating areas. I’ve got photos of seating in a McDonald’s that have tens of thousands of views.
But my bread and butter are street views of stores, restaurants, salons, etc. You take a pic of a famous landmark and it goes in a bin with thousands of other photos of the same thing. But when you take a photo of a small local diner, and you post it on that diner’s Google location, you might be the only one. That photo might be collecting views for years. It might even be the featured photo. A lot of people that are going to there for the first time want to see that photo.
And you don’t have to wait till you’re going on vacation or some special landmark. If you’re going on an errand to pick up something, take some photos. Shoot the stores on the way, next to your destination, or of the place you’re going to. And when you’re in the store take a shot of the aisles. I was in a Staples recently and I took a shot of the aisle i was in. It’s already got over 30,000 views!
And a single street photo might capture 4 different stores. Then you can add that photo to all four of those Google stores. If some of those stores aren’t on Google yet, add them!
Oh and keep you’re camera phone ready as your driving. When you’re stopped at a red light, take photos of the establishments at the corner. Shoot the gas station or the 7-eleven and later add to Google maps. I was at a red light and i took a photo of a local firehouse. It’s got over 140,000 views!
The photo doesn’t have to be perfect. So don’t spend a lot of time taking the shot. I was walking down a street. I took a photo thru a photo developing shop’s store window of a nice framed photo of a duck. It was a really mediocre photo. There was glare. Of a duck?! It got over 300,000 views! Who would a thunk it?
Other high view businesses; funeral parlors, town halls and other municipal offices, drug stores, post offices, beauty parlors, schools, liquor stores, hotel rooms, Baskin-robins ice cream stand for some reason.
Don’t be afraid to just take photo from where your standing and see what happens. I was standing in line at a Wal-Mart pharmacy and i took a shot of their shelves full of vitamin pills. It’s got like 4,000 views. Could you use some photos with 4,000 views? Without taking one step extra from your routine tasks.
This stuff isn’t sexy, but they’re a quick way to get some points and views.
So I hope this helps some of you out there. Good luck!
