How far back can you post a review for a place that you visited.

1.can you review a place you visited 1, 2 or more years ago.
2. is there a cutoff time for earning badge rewards. In other words will a review give you rewards on a place you post today but visited a year ago or more.

@JBknyc There’s no technical limitations on leaving reviews on the places you visited long time ago. The badges aren’t connected to how far back you’ve visited a place before leaving a review. It’s more from ethical perspectives, and whether it still makes sense to leave the review. Your experience visiting a restaurant a year ago may be different compare to if you go now. The place (if they haven’t closed down) may did renovation, so they look different. The cook may have changed, so meny and taste could be different. You get the idea.

At the end of the day the important thing is to leave review that’s relevant to the current condition. So if you’re 100% sure nothing changes since the last time you visited the place, then feel free to leave the review.

Hi @JBknyc

I think I remember a guideline saying that reviews and photos should be recent. That is reflecting the current situation. Also, the aspect of being helpful comes into play here. Often Maps users will check contributions for details that the contributors might not be aware of and a lot of details change over time.

But there is no time limit set by Google.

You can find some Connect discussions about sharing historic photos on Google Maps. Would you consider historic photos in Google Maps to be helpful to you?

All the best

Hello @JBknyc
Welcome to LG Connect and congratulations on your first post here :pray:

Good question. I’d suggest also reading this reply in an ongoing discussion.
Hope you find it relevant or at least get some useful information about writing reviews about places that might have changed.

@JBknyc , the previous comments and links are very helpful and accurate. Sometimes we get busy on the go however and will take images to post later. Google maps is great about reminding you to contribute to these places. On mobile you can select the Contribute tab and the places you have visited but not left reviews for will be listed there (assuming you are allowing Maps to track your location). I personally find the window for uploading content to be best around the one week timeframe, otherwise your reviews or images get pushed to the back burner. Good luck mapping. :stars:

@JBknyc

I think the best way to write a review of a place that you visited long ago is mention the date of visiting in the first sentence of your review.

Example:

I visited the museum on October 15, 2021.
