How does google approve map edits, and how to I remove an edit made by mistake

I visited a restaurant the other day and enjoyed it. Yet when I got home, i have an email thanking me for my contribution. It appears that I may have mistakenly made an edit telling Google the place doesn’t exist. Pocket edited I suppose. I tried looking everywhere to cancel that request to no avail. Even left a review to show its currently up and running. yet today, i get the email saying my contribution was approved. So now I’m trying to figure out what to do about it. It still appears on the maps for me for now, but i dont want it removed as it is a good business.

I’m questioning how Google makes these decisions. Cause I have also tried adding places complete with pictures, website, etc, and had it not approved. Or removed places such as a supposed military police Station in the middle of a small amusement park, yet they still continue to show. I also need a way to remove a road. I know of at least one road that was washed out part of it years ago, making Google directions inaccurate as it no longer loops to the other road. I tried submitting an edit for this, but it has not been fixed either. As removing roads or adding park areas don seem to be an option.

But a business with recent reviews, pictures and more, has my mistaken edit published. Google needs a way to reverse contributions and a better system to verify.

Hi @jcc5018 !

Their software or their bot decided which place to approve or not. The process of selection and approval completely depends completely on Google.

If the place still exists on the map, then don’t need to think about it. But if it’s been removed from the map, then you’ve to add that particular place into the map and wait for the time being till Google approves your submission and makes it visible on the maps. I think there’s no alternative way of re-appearing a place marked as non exist ,other than trying to add it into the map again to make it re-appear again.

Hope my suggestion might help you in the need of hours!

Have a good day!

Hi @Saprativ_Das

It is very unlikely you have removed a place by accident.

Please know that a Does not exist removal will make an irreversible change while marking a business as permanently closed can be undone.

If you share the link to the place we can check for you.

Cheers
