How do I add areas to Google Maps?

Hi, I’m trying to figure out how to add places (that takes up areas) on the map.

I am part of a nature conservancy, and we’d love to add hundreds of our nature reserve to Google Map and encourage the public to come out. However, that’s not as easy as adding a place, since I need to give the exact area (shape) of the map, and maybe even add the hiking trail within the nature reserve.

We have map objects if that’s helpful. But how to get it up to Google Map?

Hi,

I’m not a professional Local Guide, but from what I’ve seen, there are no ways to add a specific area to Google Maps yourself.

I suggest emailing the relevant service’s support, to see with them if they can add the areas for you.

I’m sorry that I don’t have a precise answer, but I hope that I’ve helped you somehow.

This piece of info came to my email couple weeks ago Re: Adding places. I am going to paste it below. Hope this helps. Cheers

To:

  1. Add a place from the menu. Open the Google Maps app. Tap the Menu > Add a missing place.
  2. Search for an address. Open the Google Mapsapp. Search for an address. At the bottom, tap the address. …
  3. Drop a pin. Open the Google Maps app. Drop a pin (long press on the map) at the location of the place you want to add.

Hello @novinaw ,

Areas can only be added through send feedback option. Team will review it and will take further action on it.

Be sure to kept in mind that team receives many feedback in a day. It can take sometime so don’t worry about that.

Good Day

Hi @novinaw

as @deepakjhic said, the map layer is not editable by Local guides.

We can inform about errors, or missing information, in Google maps, through the “send a feedback” function.

For more information: Report an error on the map
