Many times I make strategies before uploading any photo and video to Google Maps, and I saw that in most cases it worked for me to give me a better result.
So I thought to share some tips with the community; as per my experience, all these methods worked in my case and may not work with everybody. My photos got an instant feature in the top 3 photos of the POI on Google Maps.
Let me clear one thing: you should always focus on quality contributions, not the views. If your photos and videos are helpful to others, then you will start getting a good number of views.
Recently, I got 10600+ views on a photo in 5 days, and here are the points that I followed:
You should always try to find what’s missing in the POI and try to upload photos of that particular area. In my case, I have uploaded the photo of the storefront.
Take a clear and unblurred photo; try to avoid capturing any distractions like faces in the photo. If required, try multiple shots. Once, I took 14 shots for 20 minutes to get the best photo.
Try to remove people and any other distractions from the photo with the help of the Magic Eraser tool.
Edit the photo a little bit if required, adjust the light, etc, so that everything in the photo is clearly visible. Avoid heavy editing or adding heavy filters.
Here is the actual photo that I clicked, and above is the photo that I uploaded. You can clearly see the difference in both photos.
Again, I want to say that all these points mentioned above are based on my personal experience. Please feel free to share your thoughts.
Please Note: Uploading selfies or pictures with humans, especially with recognizable faces, to Google Maps is against the guidelines, but yes, you can share your selfie and photos on Connect, writing your unique story of the place.
Wow that’s a crazy number of views in just 5 days Congrats! It’s always fun when a photo suddenly starts getting traction like that. Thanks for sharing the details and the experience.
Good work done @Shaunak . Getting 10,600+ views in photos in just 5 days is a very huge achievement. Even, I also manage to achieve this number yet. Congratulations
Congratulations @Shaunak. This was something I often experienced before Google Maps made changes in February 2024. Now I think we may be getting back to those good days again.
Very informative and helpful article! I can relate to it so much! A photo posted by me on Maps - an entrance of a hotel and Bengali cuisine restaurant in Ranchi - has the second highest views in my feed. 2.37 lakhs in 3 years. Earlier I would wonder what in it was fetching so many views. Later, I realised that people wanted to see the front of a place. It helps identify the place, among other things.
