How can I post a GIF in Connect?

Found some gifs uploaded in Connect, so I’ve tried to upload one, but experienced this error (the gif was under 3mb):

Any suggestion?

Ok, seems that only external gifs can be added to Connect

Hi @LucioV

it sounds strange to me, i will tag a Googler, @GeorgesHR for a check.

I have no issue in posting Gif, but I don’t know if my badge give me extra permission, even if I don’t think so

Thanks @ErmesT maybe is another superpower, after the no 1000 photos limit

Hey @LucioV ,

You can certainly add a gif using the proper html tags.

It should also be possible for you to upload a gif directly using a local copy.

Hi @LucioV

I tried to upload a gif and it works for me. You just download gif to your computer, then click on photos when writing a post, upload, choose files, wait for an upload and then press done.

Here is my gif to show you that it is possible:

Tried again, but the error still stands. Maybe the maximum size is different for gifs?

I’m trying now with a gif I’ve linked from an external source.

I’m recording the screen.

Here is the result:

Please note that uploading a gif > 3Mb triggers the standard size error.

And that I’m able to add an image as well (so no 1000 photos limit error triggered)

I’m sorry @Vaigl i need to revoke the solution, as this is not working for me. Hope you understand.

I see @LucioV , and it sounds strange to me.

You have 999 photos loaded, so of course the GIF will not be blocked for photo limit. GIF are considered exactly like photos, and stored in your album in Connect

can you send me your file (you already have my email) for a loading test on this post?

Sure @ErmesT ! Check the mailbox

The issue is on your file @LucioV . Probably some of the file attribute is not accepted

I am receiving exactly the same error.

Try to create a gif with Google Photo for a test, and to upload it

Mmhhh thanks @ErmesT tried two different gif makers online…

Could be useful to have an hint from the error number in lithium community; found nothing.

Maybe server side they have a log they can look into.

Hey @LucioV I think you’ve reached your 1,000 image limit (actually just over it) so I suspect that is why you’ve got an issue.

Regards Paul

Thanks @PaulPavlinovich no, that’s not the issue; in the previous post i’ve uploaded a standard image just to show up that i was under the limit

Hi again @LucioV

Of course I am fine with removing my post as a solution. When it does not solve your problem, it actually is not a solution :).

So I would say there are 2 options:

  1. The problem is in the file you are trying to upload.

  2. Problem is somewhere else.

So I suggest you to download for example the gif with the Czech flag I have already uploaded and try to upload it yourself. Size of that gif is 863 KB FYI.

I tried to upload large gif and this is message error I received:

The file eE3OhJ5.gif exceeds the maximum file size of 3072K. Reduce the file size and try again.

BTW I am uploading new gif which is from my favourite PC game Dota 2 and it is called Dota 2 in a nutshell :).

Yes, it works, so it’s definitevely some exif detail that breaks lithium uploader
