How can I get a new car-accessible road recognized on Google Maps?

I’ve been trying to get a new road updated on Google Maps for a few years now, but it still isn’t being recognized for car navigation. We built this road specifically so cars could access our business, as the original route uses a small bridge that only motorcycles can cross. Because Google doesn’t recognize the new road, it keeps directing drivers toward the other roads around our area, causing them to get stuck or lost.

To fix this, we’ve had to move our business marker to a point before the new road and put up physical signs to guide people manually follow down the road.

Does anyone have advice on how to get Google to finally digitize this new road and update the routing for automobiles so our guests can navigate to us safely?

Please share the following details.

The Maps link to your business.
The Maps link to your business’ actual location (drop a pin and share it)
The locations of where the new road starts and ends (dropped pins)

Please explain the actions you have taken to create the missing road? And the status of those edits.

In some areas of Cambodia we might not be able to add new roads.

PS Using ALL CAPS in a business name is not allowed for names longer than 4 characters.

I found the place you added: Google Maps

My prediction, that adding roads in your part of Cambodia was correct. When I right click on the map near The Safari the menu popping up does not have the menu item called Report a dataproblem using a computer. This indicates that adding and editing roads in your part of Cambodia is currently not allowed by volunteers.

@MarcoDavoli, would you please share information on what @chandaravireak could do next. Is using the Google Maps Support Community usable, or is having the local authorities enter into a Geo partnership the only path forward?

Ciao @chandaravireak ,

Based on my experience with StreetView and Google Maps, I believe you’re facing a pretty tough problem to solve. I’d say that moving your business marker to that position is the best idea.

As mentioned by @MortenCopenhagen (thanks for tagging me) today it is not possibile to edit / add new roads in your country and also the Roadmapper application (available only after registration) do not have your country among the few they add to the list).

This can only be done by them and/or upon request from your government or institutions.

If you go to the official StreetView website (https://www.google.com/streetview/), you’ll find a lot of information, but nothing that can help you, nor a “send feedback” option.

The only thing you can do from that page is use the “Help Center,” which redirects you to… Google Maps (https://support.google.com/maps/?hl=en#topic=6275604).

The best thing I can suggest is to ask for help from the community where, very often, you’ll find Google staff ready to respond.

Try here: https://support.google.com/maps/community?hl=it&sjid=3356370634590783187-EU

You’ll see that with a lot of patience and persistence, you’ll find an answer.

Good luck with your work,
Marco

BTW also this “report a problem” is only for higlight an issue with a wrong road / privacy or few other infornation

Hi @MarcoDavoli

Just for the record: if you try adding/editing a road close to the capital this is possible on Google Maps. So roadediting is not blocked all over Cambodja.

I saw,

Thanks!

Hi @chandaravireak, welcome to the Local Guides Connect community! :waving_hand:

I’m a fellow Local Guide contributor based in Cambodia as well, and I’ve been actively contributing to Google Maps in our region, adding roads, places, reviews, and edits. I totally understand your frustration with this!

I’d love to keep in touch and support you on this. As local contributors, we can work together to get this road properly recognized, whether through Map editing suggestions, adding the road segment, or flagging it for review.

Feel free to message me directly here. I’ll do my best to help, and let’s stay connected within our Cambodia Local Guides community. Together we can make Google Maps more accurate for everyone here! :cambodia:
