How can I edit/change e-mail address for my account

Mayby a easy question but I can not find in settings how I change to a new e-mail address.

How do I do that?

Hello @Baleroller

Once you have signed up the LG program through one Google account and associated email ID you can’t change that in a straight forward manner.

You will have to exit the program from that account & then sign up afresh with new email ID.

Further, there wouldn’t be any direct route to automatically transfer the contributions from the first account to the newer one.

PS. It would be interesting to know why do you want to change the email ID.

If the intention is to prevent the emails related to LG activities interfering with other critical ones, you can achieve the same effect through other features in Gmail.

Ok. So sad.

I just want to move it to my personal mail address.

Thanks for the reply @Baleroller

You will find the required information on how to divert the Maps & Connect related emails to your personal email ID, in this solution.

https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/Maps-notification-emails-send-to-my-own-email/m-p/2748435/highlight/true#M1014536

Possibly, your query will also get merged with that.

Hi @Baleroller

Maybe mail filtering and forwarding of mails can be used to achieve what you want to achieve.

Cheers

Hi @Baleroller

You can close your Local Guide account and create a new one, but you cannot change/migrate your contributions from an account to another

The reason why you cannot do that is in the Local Guides Program Terms and Conditions “Contributions to Google Maps must originate from a single Google account to count towards benefits and cannot be transferred between owned accounts.”

Even if a local Guide account should be the personal account, a lot of people use a GSuite account generated by their business, or the school. Then they change their job, the school end, and the account is closed.

For this very reasons a wrote two ideas in the community:

Of course you can contribute in Google Maps with more than one account (avoiding duplicate contributions) but only one account can be registered on the Local Guides program. Fortunately, as you have only 44 reviews and less than 150 photo, it will be easy to:

  • Copy your reviews on a spreadsheet and delete them from the Business listing
  • Remove the photos from the business listings

After 24 hours, when the database are synchronized, your contributions will no longer visible on your account (please check it before to proceed with the next step) - You can now

After that you will have to re-upload the contributions with your new account, and join the Local Guides program with that one, following the same link

Unfortunately there are not easier ways to do that. You will lose 252 points related to edits, answers and Q&A, but this is not a big amount of points

If, as indicated by @C_T and @MortenCopenhagen you only wants to redirect the email you receive from Google maps, you already have an indication about how to do it

Good luck

@Baleroller

Just to clarify on point on @C_T first reply: “… sign up afresh with new email ID” doesn’t mean that you have to create a new (fresh) email address, but simply that you will have to use a different email address, like your personal email account

Thanks for all comments. But I don’t understand is only - why not?

People change phone number, street address and e-mail. That could be so easy to just be able to change that setting too.

Hello @Baleroller

I understand your frustration.

However, you raised the issue in How-tos, where you will get clarification whether certain actions are possible or not.

If you feel the need for some genuine requirement, then you will have to suggest that in the idea exchange.

Nevertheless, you may find many similar ideas there.

You can vote those and then wait to see those are implemented.

I agree with you, @Baleroller , and this is exactly the reason why I wrote my two ideas. Feel free to comment in there.

However, as a matter of fact, this is not actually possible so we can’t give you a different answer.

I would like to ask you to tag the person you are responding to using @ . This will make easy to follow the flow of the conversation

hello @Anonymous_1bcd866ad52cf2303876894f065543df

the Local Guides account is firmly linked with your Google account as well as your gmail address. It is not possible to move it to another email address.

The exact same question was also asked earlier today. And @ErmesT gave a very detailed and well documented answer that I think you will appreciate.

Hi @Baleroller

My best guess is that Google wants to have some leverage in fighting spam. Keeping users responsible by having the opportunity to revoke their profiles and accounts are part of this. Also, could you imaging the black market for trading contributions and profiles for cash.

Even today I ran into a scammer who thought he could sell level 10 accounts for 50 USD.

Hope this explains partly why we can’t transfer contributions between accounts.

Cheers

Morten

Hi @Anonymous_1bcd866ad52cf2303876894f065543df I’ve marked the answer given by @LudwigGermany as the solution.

You can change the display name that appears but you can’t change the account.
