Can someone tell me how to delete listings such as this please? This place closed down years ago and there are numerous similar pages in my area. Before anyone mentions it the “Report a problem” link doesn’t go to anywhere that allows it to be deleted. Thanks for any help.
Hello @Moonferret you click on Suggest and Edit, and it will give you options to remove the place.
Thanks for your reply, but there is no option to do that. I’ve looked everywhere. It might explain why there are so many of these from years ago.
Hi @Moonferret ,
Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. I would like to kidnly ask you to provide us Google Maps links of the businesses you confirm that are closed and not functioning already, so that we can better understand your inquiry.
Please be aware that if the business listings are claimed on Google Maps they can edit and update their information by themselves.
How do I notify you of them?
There are dozens and dozens in my area alone.
Google maps has loads of pages similar to the one shown, which are either duplicates of other information, have errors, or both. Is it still the case that they can’t be corrected or removed?
In the example shown, the place is spelt incorrectly (it should be “Fairfield”, not “Farfield”) and the area is already marked on the map.
Other pages exist for places that ceased to exist years ago.
Hello @Moonferret
I find you have 22672 successful edits to your credit.
Thus, you are well aware of the editing process.
If the spelling is wrong, you can suggest an edit to correct that.
If you are sure about duplication, after clicking the edit option, select close or remove and then provide an appropriate reason. However, please ensure that the categories are matching and none of the places is claimed.
Nevertheless, since you are here after having so many successful edits, you have to specify the exact problem to let you know further possibilities.
Many thanks for your lovely reply, it goes to show that kindness and good manners are not a thing of the past.
Unfortunately, there is absolutely no way of suggesting edits to listings of this type, or of editing them yourself. I’ll repeat that, NONE whatsoever.
I see that you’re a Level 10 and it surprises me that you’re unaware of these listings.
I just thought I’d post the options for listings of this type. There is absolutely nothing that allows it to be edited, or for it to be reported.
Hello @Moonferret
Thanks for the clarification.
There are many places on Maps from the mapmaker days and these are imperfectly defined. That results in such a situation.
Nevertheless, If there is no option to edit a place, please use the send feedback alternative and wait for the change.
If the error is causing massive trouble (such as landing in accident or litigation etc.) to the users, you can share the details here and tag a Google moderator to expedite the change.
[Since you appear to know how to change it, could you help me? This needs to be changed to “Fairfield”, you can see that’s the correct spelling from the fact it’s marked as an area on the map.](http://Farfield Industrial Estate Belvoir Ct, Louth LN11 0UD Google Maps)
Unfortunately, you’ll find that it can’t be done.
Hello @Moonferret
Adding to the reply further, levels and badges amount to nothing. Anyone is welcome here to ask questions and offer solutions.
Further, I have achieved success in getting some corrections done through the send feedback option.
Additionally, there are some previous references here making mention of expeditious changes through the intervention of moderators.
Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately, there is no “send feedback” option at all. I did report it using the “screenshot” report function on 2 or 3 occasions, but it wasn’t actioned.
The error isn’t going to cause significant issues, but I just thought Google would want an accurate map.
Speaking of which, why are some listings unable to have their name corrected, after several attempts, even though the listing isn’t claimed?
The place in the picture is “Spout Yard Park”.
So how do I report these issues please?
PS, I know that levels mean nothing, it’s why do many of my edits are ignored. I’m only trying to improve the map!
Send feedback is a collection of multiple options and your opinion about Maps remains the last resort @Moonferret
As mentioned earlier, I could arrange a name change through that route, as my edit received repeat rejections.
I find you wish referring here a generic problem. However, there wouldn’t be any solution on that since the mapmaker is now closed. The community edit option stands restricted to individual POI’s only.
Nevertheless, Large scale edits are possible only when a) local authorities refer to a large scale problem or b) owner claims a place and arranges that through GMB.
Incidentally, I recollect many discussions here making mention of LGs explaining to the owners how to claim a place.
Incidentally, I find you raised a comparable query in May 2019 and received a similar answer by a former Google moderator @Moonferret
Now I realise that the solution got stuck to the query, “How do I notify the owners as there are dozens and dozens”.
A would-be solution on that can be to arrange a meet-up. To overcome the current restrictions on groups coming together, many LGs are scheduling unity walks in an identified area. The mission remains the same, I.e. removing spam from Maps.
During such walks, the LGs are also informing the owners how to claim a place.
There are limitations to individual actions. However, coming together for the same cause reduces those to a great extent.
Hi @Moonferret
As there are no feedback options on a POI here is what you can do:
Hit the share button and copy the link to the POI. Then leave the place’s page and zoom in so it is visible on the map. While looking at the zoomed in map you can now provide feedback. In the feedback text you can paste the link to the place and explain the change that is needed.
I hope this helps.
Cheers
Morten
Hi @Moonferret I’ve had success getting this kind of entry removed from Maps via the Maps Support Community https://support.google.com/maps/community
They are essentially a named polygon that got created either by someone in Map Maker or from an import of data from local government sources. Because they are only a shape they have a partial Maps entry but as they are not a complete Place they don’t have editable features.
You’ll be asked to provide some evidence such as cadastre information from a reliable preferably government source. For example my government source is https://mapshare.vic.gov.au/ you are likely to have a local equivalent.

Hello @Moonferret ,
Thanks for reaching out.
However, what you posted is similar to your previously started conversation as well as the answers you received.
To keep Connect organized I will merge this topic to the above mentioned.
Thanks
That post didn’t answer the question, and this post hasn’t suggested anything which could work either, other than starting a post on the other forum, which I’ve done.
Thanks for taking the time to look through my previous posts. I’m very surprised you had time given your piece at the end, saying how you are too busy to reply to messages…
I’d appreciate it if no-one further replies to this. There is clearly no easy solution and I don’t intend going to lengthy work to try and solve it. The moderators clearly can’t do it either. I would delete the post (s) but you can’t do that either…
