When searching for missing roads, it is necessary to turn on Sattelite View. However I struggle to find the optimal zoom level where I can see all the details and have existing roads show clearly. If a road has a name, it is easier to see that the road is already on Maps. But the contrast of existing roads is so subtle that I find it problematic. Once we turn on road editing mode the existing roads are shown in bright white color which makes them much easy to see due to the high contrast.
How do others make it easier to spot missing roads? Any tips would be highly appreciated.
The best places where to search for missing roads are the peripheral areas of medium / big cities, especially in expansion areas.
High density of population is in fact one of the elements that get priority in the approval, so a road added in that areas has a lot more possibility to be approved compared with a road in a remote area that is serving only a few users.
Then I usually save the areas in a list, because a large amount of edits in the same area is not usually approved in a single shot. Best way to proceed is to add the Main Roads and the peripheral roads, in case of an edification area and, once approved, to proceed to add all the roads connected to the ones approved
I noticed in your first screenshot how unmapped roads to the left look whiter while the existing ones look more grey due to the road overlay. Is this typical? I never saw this before. I’m looking forward to testing the 200m zoom.
Yes it is typical, @MortenCopenhagen , but you have to wait for the Roads layer to upload.
However the over imposed layer is not always easy to spot, especially in deserts where the colour of the ground is grey, like in some parts of the Andes range
I typically also use the 200m or 100m zoom level, on my phone, as the existing roads are nicely visible then. And color can definitely be a telltale sign - places where new roads are being added (or a new housing development) often looks much paler than the surroundings.
