When you see a misplaced pin on Google Maps there are four ways to move it. In this post, I will explain how to decide which method to use.
The 4 methods are:
Method #1: Just drag the pin
Path: Suggest an edit | Change name or other detail | Click/tap Update location on map
Method #2: Report Moved to a new location
Path: Suggest an edit | Close or remove | Moved to a new location
Method #3: Send feedback
Path: Edit the map | Your opinions about Maps
Method #4: Just edit the location/address text field
Path: Suggest an edit | Change name or other detail | Edit text under Location
If you are not familiar with all the methods, please follow the paths mentioned above to find them.
To figure out which method to use, you need to consider the steps:
If the street name and house number are correct and you only need to move the pin a short distance to better show where the building or entrance is located THEN use method #1. Just drag the pin.
If the business has actually moved to a new street address THEN use method #2. Report the place moved to a new location under Close or remove. Please never use method #4.
If Suggest an edit is not available for the pin THEN use method #3.
That’s it!
