Hotel "of the few hours"

A friend booked a hotel in Athens. The sort of hotel they give you the key and the remote control in a plastic bag? They give you a top sheet too. You go in and the whole wall is a mirror? The place smells of commercial grade cleaners.

Well this place has a 90% rating on a lot of platforms but it is pretty dire. Paper thin walls and my friend has heard a number of the other tenants enjoying their love life.

So someone has to properly describe the place. I write a review along the lines I am writing here, no bad words or anything. But it gets sent back “your content isn’t posted” probably because I have not been there in 30 years. SO the automated systems judge it as a fake review. But my friend confirms it is just as dodgey as it always was.

Surely we should be able to give it a more accurate grade and description? It is not quite a normal hotel. There are girls in the lobby, i mean pretty young girls that are not staying as tenants. YOu get my drift? Not even sure how to write it here without getting into trouble! It is for sure not a 4.1 star rated hotel.

Hi Alexander, that sounds like a really sketchy place. The automated filters probably blocked your review because you haven’t been there yourself recently and the system strictly looks for first-hand experiences. Just a quick heads up though, Connect isn’t meant for technical Maps support like hidden reviews. You will get much better advice by asking about this in the official Google Maps Help Community.

Here is the link for it: Google Maps Community

It is probably best to have your friend write a clean review from their own device and use the in-app feedback option to report those fake 4.1 ratings.

Hi @AlexanderChalkidis

This sentence alone can explain why it was caught by the by the spamfilters. Writing a review on behalf of somebody else is an absolute No-go.

Alternatively, Google has made the place impossible to review. But then they will normally inform you.

@Ayaanali, please know that the product experts will often refer LGs to Connect as we have better tools to help with hidden reviews.

Hi @MortenCopenhagen, thanks for clarifying that for me! I actually thought the Help Community was the go-to place for those specific issues, but it is really good to know that we have better tools right here on Connect to deal with hidden reviews. I will definitely keep that in mind for the future!

And yes, I completely agree with you on the second-hand review part. That is exactly what I was thinking too!

Νο, Ι HAVE been to this hotel but it was before I started writing reviews. I am NOT writing on behalf of anyone else. Just that this friend felt very cheated and disappointed by the high rating on Google Maps. He reminded me about the hotel so I wrote an accurate first person review which is honestly mine, just reaffirmed by his recent experience.

I would like to challenge anyone that thinks this review should not stand.

Also importantly, this ‘type’ of hotel is not one usually writes about for fear their wife/husband does not find out. Which presents a real problem for travellers that are not getting an accurate picture of its current state.

All good. Case closed. They double checked and I also submitted a photo from years back outside (was actually photographing a cat, but it shows the hotel and proves I have been there.) So review reinstated.

HOWEVER, the problem remains. We need to protect tourists from booking this hotel without knowing what kind of hotel it is. I may laugh hearing orgasms all around me but what if I had gone with little kids?
