No… It’s not a party game I’m writing about. No…I’m back again to make you salivate. Like what I do best, but this time with a hot roasted sweet potato!
The most iconic street food in Japan is called ishi yaki-imo(石焼き芋; “roasted sweet potato in heat stones”) and sold from trucks and street stalls from November to early March.
This time, it’s lunch and I am at a “yam” boutique in the heart of Tokyo in the swanky district of the Ginza, the most affluent part of Japan. I had to hustle past several high-end shops like the largest Hermes boutique in the world to reach my destination. In all my years I never thought I would go to a “roasted potato” boutique to eat a yam! Just a yam….
This shop is called “Tsuboyakimo” and it’s extremely popular with the locals. I had to wait 20 minutes just to squeeze through this place to get a “Ma-ru-go” type roasted sweet potato full sized.
Hi @user_not_found it is really a sweet iteam to eat. In Bangladesh, we also eat it by boiled or burn in the fire. Some people eat by making curry. There are two different colour sweet potato cultivate in our country, white and reddis.
However, you wait 20 minute for eating, it is passion of eating.
Good morning @Petra_M and thank you for commenting. I love these potatoes when they are hot and fresh off the hearth. One of the benignities of living in Japan is how the sales clerk wrap and present the potato to you. They quite literally gift wrap it then serve it to you very hot!
Recommendation:
Canadian maple and Hokkaido’s fermented salty butter slathered all over that hot sweet potato is divine.
@cathyvines Awesome and welcome. Please share with the community what you have, and if you need more information, help, or advice the visit the help section. It’s nice meeting you.
I love this @user_not_found ! I remember I was visiting Japan during winter, and it was freezing. Then we found a stand on the side of the road selling roasted sweet potatoes. I cut it in half and saw the smokes coming out… It was soooooo good!
Good morning from Japan @iyudhi Yes. I love the classical sweet potato street vendors. In my neighborhood they push a cart down the street while playing traditional music. Have you heard this music before?
@user_not_found I love roasted sweet potatoes, especially in cold weather. I also love some snacks that served hot like this. I also wrote a post about them here. Thank you for sharing this post with us.
Hi @Tanvir_Hasan I didn’t know that. That’s great! What toppings do you use? Here in Japan, most of the locals enjoy eating them with butter and maple syrup or just as it is.
In Bangladesh, we like to eat sweet potato by boiling it. But sometimes some of the people around the country use as a vegetable in curry or direct broil in the fire. @user_not_found
Fantastic post, @user_not_found . You indeed made me salivate. Hosted sweet potato is very popular here in Brazil. Thank you for sharing this great post.
