Holika Dahan

Hi @Anijais13 ,

Welcome to Connect.

Wow, really nice photos of bonfires. We have a special festival in my country (Brazil) that happens in June-July and it’s a tradition to have always a bonfire.

Is it a common practice to make a bonfire in your country?

In Hindu culture, holika dahan is a sign. of burning:fire: all bad feelings and thinking of our mind and start any work with fresh mind and good thinking. Holika dahan is done in month of “Faagun” ( March ) on poornima ( full moon day ). Next day after this we play with colours and celebrate Holi. There is a story behind celebrating this festival. Playing with colours is a sign. of new start and forget all our fights and bad feelings for others and make friendship again that is why the quote is famous in India " Holi ke Din Dushman Bhi Gale Mil Jate Hai" ( Enemy also becomes friend on Holi).:smiling_face:. This year Holi is celebrated on 20th and 21st March.

Hi @Anijais13 ,

Wow, that’s very interesting and very nice the meaning, thanks a lot for sharing it. Our tradition of the bonfire started with the peoples celebrating the arrival of the corn harvest in June during the Summer Solstice.
