A lovely lake in Ampara in the east of the island. There are two ways to reach the Himidurawa lake via Polonnaruwa or Kandy. The most scenic route is via Kandy. It takes about 7 hours to reach here from Colombo but is well worth the effort because lots of interesting things to see nearby. Can reach by train too, should take the Batticaloa train and get off at Gal Oya. Train journey takes a longer time. The best is to catch the night train to arrive here in the morning. Boat rides and fishing can be arraigned by talking with the locals. The lake is a lovely sight to see in the morning at sunrise. An ideal place to do bird watching too.
Hi @CharithaJB ,
This place looks like in the paradise and in the nowhere where you can relax and do bird watching as well.
I am curious which camera did you use to take those photos? You made perfect mirror effect with the lake and sky. Did you use a ND filter?
It would be great to share your photography techniques with us.
Hi @PoliMC
Thank you so much for your comments and yes it is indeed a heavenly location especially in the morning. The name 'Himidurawa Wewa" means morning lake when translated from my native language Sinhala to English. However, though the lake is beautiful cannot bathe in it because it is deep. Villagers advise not to and there are also signboards warning not to bathe.
The camera I used is a Nikon D5200 and the lens is a Nikkor 70-300mm. No color filters were used. The water was still early in the morning because there was not much wind to make ripples so it was possible to capture the reflections on the water. I used Adobe lightroom for enhancements.
Hi @CharithaJB ,
Thanks for your reply!
The name sounds very interesting to me and it has really connection with the lake how it looks like.
I saw that you’ve used a professional camera, although it’s in the morning and the water is crystal clear, it looks incredible. And congratulations for the photos, they are very professional!
If you have more from different places, you could create amazing post sharing your photography techniques.
You just brighten up our day with this amazing article, not to mention these heavenly pictures! @CharithaJB
Do you live here? I’d be so jealous if that’s a yes!
Thank you very much @PoliMC :).
Hi @ReemaGandhi
