Zaina Falls is located in the hilly and green Nyeri County, Kenya which is on the average over 2,000 metres above sea level. A 164.5km which is approximately 3:43hrs drive from Nairobi and 10 kilometre drive from Nyeri town westwards at the foot of Aberdares Ranges in Zaina Forest, found in Tetu District. It is a good place for a day trip from Nairobi Kenya. Zaina forest also has a history as far as colonialism is concerned because this is where there the famous freedom fighters used to hide while fighting the colonizers. Among this freedom fighters were Dedan Kimathi and others. They used to hide in a small cave in the forest. Yesterday we went hiking with the friends and in the process one of us proposed to his girlfriend. It is a perfect place for you to propose to your partner.
@Kiragu The falls and the scenery are awesome. How long did you hike? Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
Hey @Ant_Bad_Yogi we took three hours from central business district Nairobi to Zaina Falls and hiking was three to four hours. In the forest they also give you two soldiers to escort you in the forest. and at the falls.
Hi @Kiragu ,
Thanks for sharing these photos. Zaina waterfall looks amazing and what a wonderful day it has been! Congratulations to the proposal!
Is it possible to swim there during summer time? Do you live near-by? It would be nice to hear more about it.
By the way, I moved it to Travel because Local Stories is where you’ll learn about Local Guides around the globe who are making a positive impact in their communities, efforts to improve accessibility, and more.
Hey @DanniS . Am not from this place i went hiking with friends am from Nairobi were are trying to discover new places. You can swim during the summer. But also the weather in this place is abit different from other parts of kenya because it’s in the highlands so the water can be very cold at times.
@Kiragu That’s cool! I’ve heard that Kenya has amazing nature and landscapes. Would love to see more from Nairobi as well.
@DanniS There is a lot to see in Nairobi. From Nairobi National park to Kenya National Museum to Karen Blixen Museum. The Karen Blixen Museum is the former house of the Danish author Karen Blixen who is famous for her book Out of Africa. She and her husband bought this land with an intention of operating a coffee plantantion. After the Blixens separated in 1921, Karen Blixen continued to live at the house and run the plantation until she returned to Denmark 1931. Her life here is chronicled in her most famous book, Out of Africa, as well as in her book Shadows of the Grass. The area around was named after her and it’s called Karen Nairobi.
@Kiragu Thanks a lot for your response! That’s quite interesting. I’d love to visit Kenya one day and see the beauty myself. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing more photos from you. ![]()
