Hiking with Scouts - Okura Bush Walkway

I did this hiking 2 years ago - unbelievable! Time flies!

It was with my local Scouts group. My son was in the Panmure Cubs Scouts group.

We parked our car and started to hike - the walkway is at the entry-level. Not too hard at all for the boys and girls.

It took us about two hours to arrive at our camping ground.

I took some photos along the way. It was quite picturesque everywhere - the beach and the bush.

There is a marine life preserve area on the beach - mainly for the sea birds. No dog is allowed here to protect the chicks.

Hello @OliverKIWI ,

Great photos! You even stayed for the sunset, how amazing!

How long was the hike? It must have taken even longer with all this beaty around. If it was me, I would have probably stopped every 2 minutes just to soak everything in my mind and then to capture it with my camera.

Also, I am curious did you use a professional camera or your phone?

@Ekattotii It’s about two hours - if it’s just me, I can probably walk faster than that.

I used a Canon 5D III and 24-105 F4. Yes, the longer the journey, the heavier the cameras are. The scenery was simply amazing: bush, coastal line, beach etc. So I was actually OK. Not so tiring at all.

Some photos are taken with my Canon (1,5,6,7), and some are taken with my iPhone 6 plus (2,3,4,8)

Hi @OliverKIWI ,

Thank you for your reply! The hike does not seem to be long. Hopefully, many Local Guides who see your post will be inspired and more willing to take on the challenge. Do you have any tips to share to them?

Also, I forgot to mention that I really like the images which show how the sky reflects in the water. So serene and peaceful. Thanks again for sharing. :slightly_smiling_face:

@Ekattotii YES! Tip #1 always check Google review:)

  1. Do the homework - choose the right level suits you. Some walkway may have climbing involved or wade into stream/creek.

  2. Right gear - shoes, outfits, backpack, hats, sun lotion etc.

  3. Water and snacks (protein bars or nuts)

  4. Photo - don’t take photos while walking. Always check your environment.

I want to do the famous Tangrario Alpine Crossing in 1 or 2 years with my son.

Mirror image is one of my favourite composition. Visually pleasing and interesting.
