Hidden Gems of London

Good morning,Bonjour, Ciao, Hola!! I’m new to connect and have a worrying dilemma I don’t know London very well. I have lived in London all my life (minus the last 4 years of Uni) and I have failed to be an adequate tourist in my own city :pensive::pensive:. I want to change that now I have the travel and tourism bug but I don’t want the usual go to spots like the London Eye and Buckingham Palace. I want to underground bars and restaurants, the tucked away open mic nights, the unknown spots to view London’s city skyline. I want to uncover the unknown :microscope:. Call me Dora but I think its time I learnt about London like a Londoneer. Any suggestions or advice you can give would be great . Thanks people.

I have a few spots that I found recently that may be not the best kept secrets, but definitely are worth visiting:

  • The Leighton House Museum, a great place to take mum on lazy Sundays. The beautiful architecture, kept a secret from the masses of London, make this stunning home a hidden gem located in leafy Holland Park. Touristy, but not busy.
  • For drinks and retro video games, forget the hustle and bustle of Four Thieves in Clapham and head to Four Quarters in Peckham. While definitely popular on a Saturday night due to the cheap drinks and late closing times, there is still scope to play all the games in the joint (Mario Kart, Tekken or Pacman).
  • The Vaults in Waterloo, a dark dingy unused underground tunnel, minus the moving trains. This venue boasts a constant showing of theatre and comedy (also a pub quiz with a twist), all set in the seedy darkness of Londons underworld. Please go here if you haven’t, and if you are quick they have a comedy festival on until March 17th.

Let me know if this is the kind of thing you are looking for, I have tonnes more!
