Hello Local Guides and Google Moderators, I recently suggested an edit on Google Maps, but it was marked as not accepted and I did not receive any details about the reason. Here are the details: Google Maps link: [ Google Maps ] Type of edit: [ Changed name] I am sure the information I provided is correct because I myself added this place on maps some years ago with another account that I don’t know it. But now the name of school is changed and I can’t change it on Maps. Could someone please check why the edit was not accepted and guide me on how to get it verified? Thank you in advance for your help

Hello @areya68 , Please note that Google Maps do not provide any details regarding the reasons for rejecting our edits.
They may place restrictions on certain locations;
Examples of places that may have long-term restrictions include police stations, prisons, oceans, seas, and schools.
Recently, I have experienced rejection for an edit related to a school.

As far as I remember, the schools are one of the types of objects, that Google Maps moderation rejects automatically.
I can’t say exactly, but to my mind, it is written in the rules. Schools are not available for any edits to prevent scholars from funny jokes.

These listings are often closely monitored to ensure that only authorized representatives or verified sources make changes, as past experiences have shown that such categories are frequently targeted by spam, leading to degraded map information.
The best approach in such cases is to reach out directly to the authority or organization that has claimed the listing, make them aware of the issue, and allow them to update the information themselves. In particular, school listings are highly vulnerable to spam and misuse, often through false reviews, jokes, or other harmful edits by students and unrelated users. For this reason, it is not always practical to insist on a specific edit. If you are a genuine Local Guide, it’s better to move on and focus on other edits or contributions rather than attaching yourself too strongly to one change.

Thank you for your reply. As I mentioned earlier, it’s better not to focus on a single type of contribution. As map users, we can only suggest edits on Google Maps, but it is not guaranteed that our edits will be approved. Business name edits are usually given more preference if the place is already claimed. If it is not claimed, you can suggest the administration to do so. Due to the high volume of spam on school listings, getting edits approved there can be more challenging.

Since September 2024, Schools & Colleges & Education centres are under auto denial mode, except website change, duplicate of another place & location change without address, that’s the reason you are getting auto denial.
