Help Required: Unable to add hotel, next door one appears to dominate.

A slightly odd one but I noticed an issue when booking a trip I’m currently on. The hotel I’m staying on doesn’t have a listing on Maps.

I’m currently sat in this hotel :

Premier Inn Edinburgh City Centre Royal Mile

https://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/hotels/scotland/lothian/edinburgh/edinburgh-city-centre-royal-mile.html

It’s right next to this one:

hub by Premier Inn Edinburgh Royal Mile

https://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/hotels/scotland/lothian/edinburgh/hub-edinburgh-royal-mile.html

Note, one is a “hub”, a kind of business variant from Premier Inn, the other that I’m in is a more conventional hotel.

The hotels are completely separate, have their own receptions and entrances etc and are two completely different places. They just happen to be next to one another.

Maps location showing both hotels:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/1YqJ8KKKEdQioRTg6

Hub is on the left, Premier Inn to the right past the Costa.

Here’s my “blue dot”, it’s accurate, I’m in that building… Its not the hub :slightly_smiling_face:

You can see the marker for the “hub” to the right, it’s near the entrance.

If you navigate on Streetview the “hub” marker appears at the door of both hotels for some reason but links to the same entry:

The actual hub:

The Premier Inn that has no listing:

Two different places.

I’ve attempted to add the Premier Inn both before I came and now I’m here (I hoped being here might lend more evidence to me being truthful) but it’s not happening for some reason,im not even getting the usual email to confirm it’s gone for approval (or been added).

Oddly the restaurant (Thyme) in my hotel is listed, just not the hotel it’s inside.

Even stranger is that there’s an entry for the Amazon locker in reception at my hotel and the “inside another place” entry implies there’s an Maps entry for:

Premier Inn Edinburgh Royal Mile, 37 E Market St, Edinburgh EH8 8FR

If you search for this the “hub” comes up.

So I’m asking for help.

I need the “hub” marker issue looking at so it’s just shown in the right place and I need help with the entry for “Premier Inn Edinburgh City Centre Royal Mile”.

It feels like there was a correct entry for “Premier Inn Edinburgh City Centre Royal Mile” at some point but someone has incorrectly marked it as a duplicate with the “hub”. It’s merged but kept the location markers on Streetview as 2 entities that link back to the hub.

Can anyone with visibility behind the scenes help me with this please? The hotel is popular, other ones with similar names exist in Edinburgh and people will end up confused if this “missing” one isn’t added.

As always your help would be appreciated, Google is constantly asking me how the “hub” is and if I want to add pictures there and it’s irritating me :slightly_smiling_face:

(I also suspect a lot if the data added to the hub by visitors is incorrect due to this).

Hello @turbotapeworm

I can see both the listings on Maps. The screenshots are below.

And the next one

However, the link provided by you points to another name “Edinburgh City Center Royal Mile hotel”. And, the listing is not there on Maps. Nevertheless, the website mentions:

"Located on one of the most prestigious and historic streets in Scotland, Premier Inn Edinburgh Royal Mile hotel has new-generation bedrooms each featuring an impressive 40" flat screen TV,"… and so on.

I guess, to avoid confusion because of two similar sounding hotel names, there must have been a name change but not yet updated fully even on the hotel’s website!

Since you visited the hotel recently, you can verify that & arrange to edit the name.

Hi @turbotapeworm

The fact that listings exist with a lot of reviews could explain why you could not create a new one.

Also, this may prevent you from editing the names. It might be easier to suggest the hotels to edit the names.

Cheers

@C_T - you’ve highlighted the issue perfectly, thanks :slightly_smiling_face:

There is no name change, the (Princes Street) hotel is another one completely, not the one I’m in.

They appear to have a very heavy presence in the city and have multiple locations within fairly close proximity with subtle differences in name.

Princes Street:

Royal Mile:

https://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/hotels/scotland/lothian/edinburgh/edinburgh-city-centre-royal-mile.html

Royal Mile is the one I’m in that doesn’t have a presence on Maps… or appears to have a ghost presence.

Thank for the clarification @turbotapeworm

When there is a mixup of names, an ideal approach would be the business to initiate an action to create the POI through GMB.

You can suggest that to the owner.

All I’m asking is for someone with visibility of the underlying issue to help me sort this mess out and reinstate / recreate the correct entry.

It’s a 2 minute job for someone with the relevant access or it’s me having to try and navigate the tiers of a large corporate I have no relationship with to locate someone who might be able to recreate an entry in Google Maps via GMB.

I mean I can do that but surely it shouldn’t be this hard to sort out a basic problem.
