I recommend to all of the international tourists to visit the Northern Areas of Pakistan. Once you will visit those areas, you will forget all of your previously visited places because those places are very much beautiful and unforgettable.

SHARING A LOCAL VISIT STORY OF BEAUTIFUL NORTHERN PLACE OF PAKISTAN (NARAN VALLEY, PAKISTAN)

I am going to share a story of my visit to Naran Valley. A Few month ago we (some colleagues and friends in a group) went from City Sialkot to Islamabad for touring the Naran Valley (Valley of Mountains and Glaciers). Detail of visit story is as under:

Road Condition:

Road from Islamabad to Naran is very beautiful and comfortable. This road was contracted by National Highway Authority of Pakistan.

Distance Between Islamabad to Naran Valley: Naran valley is about 280 kilometer far from Islamabad.

Hiring Tour Operators or Private Conveyance:

There are many tour operators who offers there services for touring many place from Islamabad to northern areas different packages. You can get any of your desired package as per you budget. We took a private high roof conveyance which was much comfortable.

First Stop Near Mansehra City

After some journey, we stopped near Mansehra City to relax ourselves. There is beautiful river along with road and nice sights around there.

Balakot Stop:

After travelling some hours, we stopped at Balakot. This place has greenery and high mountains. Clouds were in the hands of mountains. This scene was unforgettable. We went to restaurant in Balakot for eating meal. After that we again started the journey.

Visit of Siri Paye Located in Shogran (In the way of Naran):

This valley is full of greenery and High Mountains. Height of the top of the peak is 3058 meter above sea level. There is very famous and beautiful picnic point. We stopped here to visit a hill station named Siri Paye. To visit the Siri Paye Hill Station, we need to take the driver of Jeep due to high and rough road. Normal conveyance cannot go up there. When we reach to the top at Paye mountain, we felt that we are on the top of the world. This station is located on the top of the peak. Clouds looks under the mountains. This was very nice experience. We came back to Shogran and again started our journey to Naran.

Kunhar River and Water Falls in the way to Naran.

Road is constructed on the edge of the Kunhar rivers which remains with journey to Naran valley. There are many sight seeing points in the way to Naran. Many beautiful waters falls force you to stop you to stay and see them.

NARAN VALLEY

When our conveyance stopped in Naran Valley, we are shocked to see the beauty of the mountains, greenery and ice etc. It looks heaven on the earth. Many hotels with different standards are available there for tourists. May to September is the peak season for visiting this place because road are open in these days. After September, snow fall starts and roads are blocked and there are many hurdles may be faced by the visitors. Hotel charges vary due to peak and off peak season. There some hotels also offer online booking.

There is market from there you can buy fruits, vegetables, grocery items and dry fruit as well.

We took a hotel with double bed and take some extra maters for sleeping in room.

There are many restaurants which offer different cultural food. We took a Punjabi hotel which offers the food as per our locality. We enjoyed the food here.

VISITING LAKES

There are some beautiful lakes in Naran Valley which looks magical. We visited the following lakes on different days:

  • Saif-Ul-Malook Lake: Saif ul Malook lake, heightens about 3500m above sea level, and is situated in the North of Naran. The beauty of this lake however is slowly being spoiled by the huge number of people visiting it every year. From Naran, a large number of jeeps are always available for this lake which takes around an hour on a 10 km bumpy road.
  • AnsooLake: This lake is loacated on 4000M above sea level. It is one of the most beautiful lake in naran kaghan, as evident from name, it emerged from its peculiar shape.
  • Lulusar Lake: It is the largest natural lake of that area and one of the most beautiful lake in Naran kaghan. It is about 3.5km long and is one of the prime source of River Kunhar. It is about 60 km from Naran. Lulusar Lake has a crystal clear water and everyone can seen this lake on his way to Babusar Top.
  • Saral Lake: It is about 3500m high above the sea level. From Dudipat, a trek of 5-6 hours can take you to Saral Lake.
  • Dudipat lake: It is the crown of all lakes of Naran/Kaghan valley. The fact that it cannot be accessed through any vehicle has so far kept it in with its original charm and matchless beauty. The trek to Dudipat starts from Besal which is at a distance of around 55 kms from Naran and is accessible through jeeps. From there the trek remains mainly along with the Purbi Nar (Nar is ‘Nala’ in local language) and takes around 6-8 hours. Best months to visit this lake are July and August. Isobel Shaw’s book mentions that one can view Nanga Parbat and other snowy peaks from the pass and further top of the hill towards northeast after 2-3 hrs of climb.

Babusar Pass or Babusar Top: Babusar Pass or Babusar Top, These are two names of this visiting place. Its elevation is 4,173 meters from the sea level. This place is very beautiful and unforgettable. This place has less oxygen than the other places of Naran. So you will have to be carful of yourself regarding your health. If you feel suffocation, then you should not stay here long. From the middle of July up to the end of September the road beyond Naran is open right up to Babusar Pass. However, movement is restricted during the monsoon and winter seasons, but it can be closed anytime when the access is not cleared of snow. The Kaghan Valley is at its best during summer (months ranging from May to September). In May the maximum temperature is 11 C (52 F) and the minimum temperature is 3 C (37 F). The road to the summit was recently asphalted.
Check weather forecasts before leaving home, and remember that it becomes cooler and often more prone to storms at higher elevations. Due to the unavailability of necessary facilities, one should take eatables and necessary items with them. Babusar Pass is at a distance of 80 km from Naran. It is on the way to the pass that the Kaghan valley’s scenery becomes most dramatic. Battakundi is at a distance of 16 km from Naran and provides access to Lalazar Plateau, lake Dodiputsar and lake Lulusar which is the biggest natural lake in Hazara and the source of Kunhar river.

End of Story/Journey

After visiting babusar Pass, we decide to end our journey. But keep in mind that you must have minimum of 7 days stay here to enjoy all the major sights of this area. When we returned to our home, we felt that our souls remained there in Naran/Kaghan Valley. This journey was unforgettable. Anyhow, our friends again planned to visit this place along with Sakardu and Gilgit in future. Here are some photos taken during the visit from Mansehra to Naran Valley.
