I can’t seem to edit the first one, the option to do so exists but when I click it I’m taken to the “Send feedback” view as if I was just trying to report an issue at a location that doesn’t have a business.
Has the first entry been added in a way that means it can’t be edited and is there any way to remove it other than to try and use the “send feedback” option?
Hello @turbotapeworm
The first reference “Morley delivery office” is possibly a result of addition during the map maker days.
However, in my opinion, there no need to do anything further as the POI in the second link “Royal mail delivery office” is listed within the Morley delivery office.
What’s needed is to shift the pin to the correct location & that is possible through the “Fix an address” option, which pops up on clicking the edit button.
Thanks for your responses @MortenCopenhagen and @C_T - I’ll take a look at the tutorial and have a look at the other suggestions too.
This core issue seems to be that however this entry has been created it’s somehow considered part of the base map rather than something “on” it - you can’t edit the actual entry but you can do things “on” it. As a result editing it to match the other one to “merge” isn’t possible but the option to update the address and move the map marker is something I have so I’ve tried that. .
I just had cause to update the opening hours for this today and wanted to prevent any confusion going forward if people were hitting the wrong instance, hopefully I can go some way to stopping that happening but it would be nice to remove the entry completely.
@turbotapeworm it looks as if that is a polygon, not a POI. Those can’t be edited by local guides, you can only use the ‘Your opinion about Maps’ from that menu to send info to the team. It can take weeks or even months for them to process your feedback, though.
It also seems to be at the wrong location (a couple of houses down the road), and at the correct location, 129a, there are also 2 different POIs: the claimed Morley Post Office (where your picture is featured) and the unclaimed Royal Mail Delivery Office. I wonder if those are really 2 different ones? Is there according to you a reason to have both of them on the map?
One final question: what happened at the intersection of Queen Str and Peel Str? Was a new piece of road added there? The Street View images are quite confusing in that particular section.
Hi @JanVanHaver - thanks for your response, it’s very useful.
As a regular Local Guide is there any way to tell the difference between a polygon (a term I’m hearing for the first time here in relation to Maps) and a normal entry a Local Guide has added / can edit other than the result of clicking “edit”?
The entry I dislike is definitely in the wrong place, I submitted a request for this to be changed via the edit options but am not holding my breath on getting a quick result
The two entries, one for the Post Office itself and one for the Royal Mail Delivery Office are valid - one is the physical Post Office and the other is a sorting office where people can collect parcels and PO Box contents with a separate entry point and its own opening hours. They are in the same building but not accessible from one to the other, in fact you can’t even walk down the side of the building to access the other, you have to around the block.
Queen St and Peel St is a constant source of distress for me I’ve reported issues there 10s of times to try and get it resolved but with no success. Essentially Queen St is closed to vehicles between 7am and 7pm and is also an elaborate one way system that changes direction in the middle. The Streetview car has visited but hasn’t been able to do all of the roads and for some reason this has led to a really strange “portal” at one of the junctions that takes you from that point to a road that runs parallel to it but is some distance away.
I was hoping to get an opportunity to try and resolve this myself by trying to do some 360 photos to update the blue lines but I haven’t had an opportunity to buy a suitable device and don’t fancy doing it with my DSLR setup.
I don’t know what the answer is but as a Local Guide that knows the area well it’s frustrating being unable to mark areas of concern and unlink points that are nowhere near each other. I’ll continue to report in the hope it gets sorted one of these days
Well @turbotapeworm it’s quite easy: if there are no options to edit it, it’s probably a polygon (reasoning by elimination so to speak). I’m not a professional map maker at all, but from what I’ve picked up along the road, I gather that a digital map basically consists of lines, shapes (aka polygons) and points.
For making decent 360 images, you definitely need a good & preferably dedicated device. Theoretically you can also use a regular camera or even smartphone, but the process is lengthy and the result usually at least a bit messy.
And finally a tip to increase the chance of getting your suggestions acted upon: if you know any other local guides in the area (or can convince people to become LGs), ask them to report the problem too.
And by the way @turbotapeworm : great explanation you gave on why the 2nd POI is justified - it really shows that you give these matters the appropriate amount of consideration and that you master the guidelines!
