When a crisis occurs in your community, one of the most helpful things to know is which roads are open or closed in order to navigate out of danger.
Last week, we explained how you can report a road closure on the Google Maps app to help others receive improved routing away from crisis. Another important way you can make an impact is by confirming a suspected road closure or providing information about a road reopening on Maps.
On Android, you can help to confirm a suspected road closure or provide information about a road reopening by following these steps:
Open the Google Maps app
Turn on the traffic layer
Tap on the red icon for a road closure or the amber exclamation point icon for a suspected road closure. Note: Different closures show up at different zoom levels. You may need to zoom in to see closures on smaller roads
You’ll then be prompted to answer the question, “Is this road closed now?” Tap Yes, No or Not sure
Note: You can view both suspected and confirmed closures on iOS, but the prompt for suggesting edits is not currently available.
Please always consider your safety and the safety of others first. Your priority during a crisis should always be to get yourself and loved ones out of danger. Please do not provide information about road closures or reopenings until you are in a safe place.
Toca Sí, No o No estoy seguro.
@AriMar This is a good update. It’s like the fact check option for edits. This will give more accurate road closure update which is very important in the time of emergency.
I love the addition of multiple layers of verification and confirmation. It definitely helps make sure that closures are valid and the safest routes are paid out. Hopefully we LGs can help be good stewards for this feature.
@AriMar it is a great feature in google maps, because we can alert masses that which road is working and which one is closed. So, they can save the time and make their travel journey perfect with google maps.
Good progress on this topic and great work. Practicing this procedure without sending the information to maps, it is very useful to maintain the training when the crisis process develops as a start, stabilization and setback or end, including circumstances and emotions. Sometimes being in a safe place means being evacuated or staying in camps. That is why providing faithful information and with the collaboration of several people in different geographical areas is very important, it will be possible to inform and cover large continuous or discontinuous areas of crisis. See the option to “add notes” on the maps screen, it was very good, since there you can write in more detail the information of its evolution or magnitude.
@AriMar Thank you for sharing this feature with us. It is nice that we can report road closures and also report road reopenings. Again, hope local guides rarely use these features as I wish no nature crisis to occur.
It’s a welcome update. It will help save a lot of lifes if there was a riot and valuable work hour if you knew which road is closed or opened , with that piece of information, one should knew when to steer away from traffic congestion.
It is a good follow up on the previous post on road closure app.
It may also be taken into account that the road closure, in many flood situations, is Temporary.
So, it may be impressed on the LGs to follow up with the status of the clearance and report immediately so that the previous report on blocks do not prevail later.
