Help Google Maps be Awesome in Korea!

Google Maps is the most universal map service out there. It has earned people’s trust and love with its many awesome abilities such as finding a place with an address, letting you be virtually present with Street View, and calculating different routes from point A to B (and C, D and more in between) whether you driving, taking a transit, biking or just walking. Google Maps also invites the users to help making it better.

One of the ways is allowing users to review places and share their own experience and information they acquired. This very feature is what makes me love the app. For instance, when I was planning my trip to Europe, it was my goal to find restaurants within budgets. I was pleasantly surprised how handy Google Maps was in the process and was inspired to share my experience of the places in the reviews. Soon after I found out that other travellers appreciated my reviews, with some photos totalling 30k views. In using Google Maps, I was able to both receive and provide helpful information to people in search of the best restaurants with their own factors in mind.

However, even though Google Maps has these capabilities and proven-to-work features, it is not the most popular map service in Korea, and much of the contents are missing. For example, the driving route feature seems to be disabled and transit calculations are often inaccurate, if provided any. I believe with more user base and the help of their feedback, the service can improve and its impact and usefulness can scale to people and visitors in Korea.
