Help a bewildered google user

Dear Google local guides,

I’m new to being a local guide. I hope this is the right place to ask for help.

In the last year, I posted 4 reviews of my local food and beverage establishments.

I was surprised to find out that most of my reviews are private and not public.

Can someone assist me to better understand why my reviews are private and not public?

I have tried asking on some public forums and have also read through the various google guidelines regarding reviews.

Some helpful people from the public forums have speculated that my review content might be malicious, my photos might be not be child friendly, etc.

I don’t know what to think about those comments because I am a food lover and I love to share about my food and beverage experiences! Especially that around my local area.

Could someone please help a bewildered me better understand why my reviews are not made public?

And what positive steps can I take to get my reviews become public?

*please note that I have already gone through the map policies and prohibited content guidelines!

Thank you in advance!

Hello @Christylim

there are many reasons why the SPAM filter may hide your reviews, photos or videos. For an introduction, have a look here: Hidden Reviews? Read this.

If your review has photos attached to it, the entire post will be hidden if only a single photo is rejected by the filter. Therefore if you realize a review was not published, the first thing to try, would be to remove attached photos. If the text is accepted, you can attach the photos again, but always on at a time, to understand which one was rejected.

@Christylim

Let me add, that profiles with so few contributions as you have are sometimes limited until you have proven to be a legit and trust worthy Local Guide.

Looking at your only public review is not enough to understand what could cause the problem.

Feel free to share the text of your 3 hidden reviews below together with Maps links to the places for each of them for a check.

Cheers

Hi @Christylim

Reviews are normally removed by an AI for various reasons, not necessarily related to the text itself. Like @WilfriedB said a review can be removed also if the attached media are (is, in your case, because you only posted one photo in maps that [FYI] is not visible.

First thing to do is to proceed as mentioned in Flag and fix inappropriate content "If a review you wrote has been flagged and removed, you can fix it yourself. Edit your review to follow Google review policies — for example, you might remove a phone number or URL from the review. Your review will be automatically republished.

If it does,t work, and you believe that the review is following Google’s policies, then you can appeal for a member of the team to check and release the reviews that are not against the policies. Please read An update on how we moderate Google Maps reviews to find the appeal form.

Just an additional question. You wrote “I posted 4 reviews of my local food and beverage establishments”. I believe you mean place that you are used to visit, not places that you own. Am I correct?

I am asking because reviewing a place you own is considered conflict of Interest
