Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, born in 1238 AD in Badayun, became a disciple of Baba Farid Shakarganj at the age of 20. A revered Sufi saint of the Chishtia order, he emphasized love of God through love for humanity and compassion beyond religious boundaries.
Settling in Ghiyaspur, now Basti Nizamuddin, he established a Khanqah that offered food and spiritual guidance to all. He also initiated the famous Stepwell in 1322, believed never to have dried. His disciples included Amir Khusro and Sheikh Nasiruddin Chirag Dehlavi.
Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya passed away in 1325 AD. His Dargah, built and renovated by various rulers, houses other important graves, including Amir Khusro and Mughal Princess Jahanara.
Today, the Dargah remains a spiritual hub. Annual Urs celebrations draw devotees of all faiths, continuing the saintβs legacy of love and inclusiveness.
